Surviving the 2016 Elections Like a Boss

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

This is quite possibly one of the most stressful elections in American history – never have two candidates been so oddly matched. While former presidential candidates have been shady, dishonest, and discriminatory, Donald Trump’s comments, both preceding and during his campaign have demonstrated that he has no regard for the lives of those he considers less than. Plus, that hair? A disaster. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, is the most qualified candidate in US history (according to President Obama) and a fellow alumna of a women’s college, but her past does show that she has not always cared about the lives of all people equally.

In the end, we have two choices, and of course, one is better than the other by miles. However, there is still a definite fear that the American people will pick a talking Cheeto (Trump) over a woman, and here at HC Mt Holyoke, we’re nervous as hell. Or, at least we were, until our Her Campus Fall Survival Kits arrived. Contained within that glorious package were some of the tools we needed to keep us from losing our minds this election season. Check out the list to see what you may need in order to stay sane!

1. CamelBak Forge Divide Mug

Whether you needed a caffeine boost to live tweet the debates (here’s a recap of the second debate) or a spill proof mug to keep your wine in as you ponder the end of the world should Trump become President, this CamelBak mug has you covered. It comes in a variety of colors, keeps drinks warm or cool, and allows you to ditch disposable cups! Climate change wasn’t mentioned at all during the debates, but you can still do your part to save the planet!

2. Freeman Beauty’s Feeling Beautiful Face Masks

Need a break from the rampant misogyny prevalent throughout this election season? Take a moment to pamper yourself with these amazing face masks. They smell amazing and come in a variety of types, so you’ll always find one perfect for your skin type. Additionally, you’ll feel so luxurious and refreshed that for a moment your fears about the future of our nation won’t exist.

3. Rimmel London Cosmetics

Go from a 2 to a 10! In all seriousness, though, sometimes putting on makeup can make any crappy day feel a bit better. Show the world that you, like HRC, can be a boss and look fly at the same time! Our personal favorite Rimmel London Products are the 24HR SuperCurler Mascara, long lasting Colour Precise Eyeliner, and The Only 1 Lipstick. Even better, pair these with a sophisticated fragrance from Juicy Couture, as well as classy sheer pantyhose from L’eggs. For extra support on a crappy day, look no further than these cute and sophisticated Maidenform bras to keep the tatas secure. With all these, what could go wrong?

4. Wearsafe Adventure Box

If Donald Trump becomes President, there’s a good chance that a lot of us will have to flee the ensuing chaos and we’ll need a way for our loved ones to know where we are. Additionally, the backlash against the election (the results of which Donald Trump says he may not accept), could lead to dangerous altercations in the streets, especially for people who belong to marginalized communities. The Wearsafe Adventure Box comes with a Wearsafe tag which, according to the company, “is the only personal safety button that instantly connects you to the people who know and love you the most, giving them both your location and valuable context about what’s happening through a continuous audio stream”. Whether you’re headed to a party, going door-to-door to gain support for your candidate, or just in an uncomfortable or dangerous situation, the Wearsafe tag will allow you to connect with your loved ones so you can stay safe.

5. Diva Cup

All my menstruating friends out there know what it’s like to have blood coming out of your…wherever. It’s inconvenient, it’s a hassle, and it’s a pretty expensive monthly surprise. The Diva Cup can make it a little easier on you. Once you insert this menstrual cup, you won’t even know it’s there, it can be used for up to 12 hours, and you can use it over and over again for years to come, just wash it!

6. Go Out And Vote!

Ok, so there’s no super small polling station in the Survival Kits, but voting is the most important way to make sure that the world doesn’t end in January, when the POTUS leaves the White House. Educate yourself on the issues and decide what’s best for you and then go out, vote, and make your voice heard!
