Campus Celebrity: Juan Ouvina

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

Name: Juan Ouvina

Major: English/ Secondary Education

Minor: Leadership Development Through Civic Engineering

Year: Senior

Hometown: West New York, New Jersey

HCM: What are you involved in on campus?

JO: I am a Resident Assistance (RA) and Service Assistance (SA) in Dinallo Heights and a Bonner Senior Intern for Campus Disability and Volunteer Recruitment.

HCM: Are you involved in anything outside campus?

JO: Yes. I am involved with New Jersey All People Equal (NJAPE)

HCM: Why did you choose MSU?

JO: I chose Montclair because I was interested in the great education program. I also wanted to get to know different people and enjoy a different environment from my own at home.

HCM: What do you love about your roles on campus?

JO: I love being part of something bigger. I like to feel needed as a mentor to those in need. I like to feel like an act to follow.

HCM: What is your favorite thing about MSU?

JO: I appreciate the diversity on campus, that we are all different ethnically and all the different personalities.

HCM: Do you have a favorite quote?

JO: “Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing at all” by Helen Keller.

HCM: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

JO: In 5 years I see myself living in another state. I don’t know where yet, but I’m open to change. I want to work in an education system somewhere whether it be teaching, counseling, or through administration.

HCM: What advice would you give incoming students or underclassmen?

JO: I would advise underclassmen to be willing to take risks in college. You’re only an undergraduate once in you’re life and one should make the most of their experience with no regrets.
