This week’s Campus Celebrity is Linda Ly! Linda is a senior at Montclair State University with a major in Communication Studies with a concentration in Organizational Communication and two minors in Psychology and Leadership Development through Civic Engagement.
Linda is known around campus for being the “person that knows everyone” and “the busiest woman on campus”. Linda is very involved on campus with juggling a one major with two minors, two jobs, multiple clubs, and being a senior intern with Bonner Leaders AmeriCorps program. Linda explains to HC Montclair what the Bonner Leaders AmeriCorps program actually is, “Bonners is a community service program in which students do a minimum amount of 300 service hours per year”. You’d think with all this going on Linda would not have any free time but, she does! In her spare time she enjoys going to the mall with her friends, trying out new desserts, and going on coffee runs. Linda is also a fashionista because she loves to explore the latest trends and she is always posting a cute #ootd on Instagram.
Linda tells us why she chose to be a communication major, “I chose the major I chose because it was easier than the major I chose when I first started at MSU (which was business). Communication allows me to have options of what I want to do with myself in the future, which is great”. We totally agree, communication is a major that is very broad and it can help you in every aspect of your life. Linda also fills us in on some of her aspirations “When I get older, I want to be someone who is happy with her career, whether it is in organizational communication, marketing, business, or retail. I’ve always wanted to open up my own café when my parents retire so that’s definitely one of my dreams. I also want to continue to give back to the community since I’ve been doing that basically my whole pre-teen through teen years”. A café would be perfect for Linda to open up being that she loves coffee and desserts! Linda’s biggest supporters are her parents because they have sacrificed so much for her and she loves them so much for everything that they do for her. “They’ve raised me to be a responsible and hardworking young adult, and they continue to support me every day. They’ve made sacrifices for me so I could live a happier life than they did, and their greatest attribute is the unconditional love I receive from them”. We cannot wait to see all that you will do, Linda!
