Rain, Rain, You Can Stay

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

Soggy sneakers, crosswalk faceplants and forgotten umbrellas: these are just a few of the true blessings of rainy days on a college campus.

The inconvenience is REAL, and there is no process more annoying than gingerly unpacking piles of dripping school supplies from your backpack. At that point, singing in the rain is a distant and unlikely occurrence, but lack of dry transportation options to class often leaves us no choice. Here are five ways to play up the downpour:

Invest in some cute rain gear

Pull yourself up by the straps of your (rain) boots and make a statement out of the storm. Create a rainy day aesthetic from your raincoat to your umbrella. Target has a fantastic boot selection that will keep you dry but won’t dry out your bank account.

Cloudy day? Clear lighting!

The true silver lining of those depressing sun-coverers is that they provide PERFECT picture lighting. Take advantage and take a pic!

Relish in the coziness

Make a cup of hot tea or coffee and enjoy the view from inside. Rain makes for some perfect background noise for reading, homework, or movies!

Bag it

To keep your school supplies dry in the pockets of your backpack, store everything in clear plastic bags. My poor memory cards have suffered through rain damage one too many times for me to realize this trick.

(Pour) your soul into some tunes!

~Make it rain~ on your way to class and jam to a rainy day playlist. “Oh Rain | A Lovely Chill Mix” is a nice mixture of relaxing songs on Spotify, or you can always make your own!
