Say hello to our Campus Celeb for this week: Lydia Ghuman! She is currently the interim Chief Inclusivity Officer for MSA. Lydia, a Junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, has a double major in English and Biology. Read on to find out more about Lydia and her position in MSA.
Her Campus Mizzou: What made you want this position?
Lydia Ghuman: The social justice communities at Mizzou have taught me so much in terms of synthesizing and understanding my lived experiences as a minority. They have not only given me so much information that has helped me in my life, but have provided me a wonderful support system of friends and confidants, in addition to teaching me why diversity is an important thing to talk about. I saw this position as a wonderful way to serve the communities that have given me so much as well as promote policies, ideas and discussions that serve all marginalized identities on campus.
HCM: Do you have a particular program that you are most passionate about within MSA?
LG: I have not been apart of MSA too long. This position is the first time I have ever done anything with MSA, so I feel like being wrong in saying I am passionate about anything in MSA, as passion is something I usually associate with something I myself have invested a lot of time and energy into. There is a program with MSA that I really do believe in, as it has an amazing cause! This association is Tiger Pantry. It’s a wonderful program that helps fight food insecurity in Columbia and highlights the fact that not all college foods know where there next meal is coming from. It’s something that needs to be talked about, and this program does a great job in combating the stigma around this issue as well as helping students that are going through it.
HCM: What has MSA done that you are most proud of?
LG: I think my answer for this is a little similar (to the previous question) in the sense that I feel odd being proud of something in an organization that I have not put a lot of time into as of yet. With that being said, I am really proud of how MSA tries to serve students as much as they can with the variety of programs they develop.
HCM: What was most appealing about MSA that made you join over other organizations?
LG: The reason I wanted to join MSA is because students are able to have access to a lot of resources, people, and administration that you may not have in other organizations. I thought that this greater accessibility would not only help me serve students in a faster way, but in more monumental ways as well.
HCM: Are you involved in anything else here at Mizzou?

LG: I am a McNair Scholar, a Tour guide, Co-President of Feminist Student Union, a MAB site leader, and a student co-coordinator of Diversity Peer Educators!
