Around 7 o’clock on an absurdly hot September night Millersville students flooded the Galley to have a fun night of art, fun, and creativity. Paint Night was put on by ArtMatters of Lancaster, a studio where anyone 5 and above can take classes or attend workshops. Sadly, many (myself included) came to the Galley only to find that the 65 seats had already been filled.

Luckily for me, a camera gets you in just about anywhere.

As the night began, the room was filled with mixed feelings about attempting the “Tree of Life” painting displayed at the front of the room. Some painters were just excited to be there, others were more dubious about their abilities. Either way, everyone began with their own interpretations of an auburn autumn sky, amongst chatter and laughter. As the night progressed, some developed more confidence, some a bit less, but overall the atmosphere lightened as people enjoyed their time creating with friends.

As this two hour painting experience continued, and outlines of trees and tree-ish things arose, students began taking some more artistic liberties with their work.

At the end of the night, everyone left with different levels of pride in their piece, but everyone I talked to said they had fun, and some even planned to seek out ArtMatters in the future for their Pet Selfie Painting Workshops. Overall, this turned out to be a worthwhile, creative, and fun way to spend a Friday night, and I would highly recommend seeking similar night activities out in the future. Just make sure you get there well in advance to claim your seat, they go quickly! If you’d like to see more pictures from Paint Night, check out the Imgur album here: http://imgur.com/a/dCgFJ

I'm currently a junior at Millersville University with a major in International Studies and German and a minor in Government and Political Affairs. Outside of Her Campus I am invovled with Student Government, Society for International Human Rights, and German Club. When I somehow miraculously have free time I usually spend it being a total geek: gaming, watching youtube, watching netflix, you get the gist. Besides all that I also enjoy being creative in a variety of mediums as well as ice skating. I'm looking forward to the next few years at MU and I can't wait to see where it will all take me!
