What’s a funny story your family always tells about you? One summer morning (not that long ago, which is the craziest part), my brother came by and asked if I wanted to dig a hole. With no further discussion, we started digging this enormous hole in the backyard until our dad came home from work at three. Obviously, we spent the evening filling it back up.

What’s your favorite thing about Millersville? The music faculty is really incredible. I’ve learned so much from every professor there, and I feel very lucky to have been educated by them.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Millersville and Lancaster? First Friday in Lancaster City is always a good time. With Central Market, Prince St. Café, and the Creamery all located within a hundred-yard radius, you really can’t go wrong. In Millersville, I’d say hang out at George St. Café, then go on an insane grocery shopping spree at John Herr’s. (Half-off bakery items!)

What’s your favorite food? I have no idea. Shepherd’s pie is pretty dope.

What is your ideal vacation? As many times as I’ve been to Japan, I wouldn’t mind going back for a vacation. Traveling across Europe would be pretty sweet too, as cliché as that is.

What’s a song that describes your life? “Now You Know” by DJ Egadz (It’s a Biggie Smalls vs. The Postal Service mash-up. So fresh!)

What is your favorite holiday? Hm… Christmas is pretty tight. I just like the feel of the holiday.

What is the most played song on your iTunes? Let me check… “Solidarity” by Enter Shikari.

What is your biggest pet peeve? Oh, man… so many. Spelling/grammatical errors in places where it really matters. That’s no good.

Who is a famous person you would like to meet? Scott Hansen, from Tycho. (Hopefully meeting him in two weeks!)

Who is your favorite music artist? Another question with about fifty great answers. Dry the River is pretty legit. Definitely one of my faves.

What is your favorite thing to do on a rainy day? Skate or play tennis- haha.

What is something someone would be surprised to know about you? I played in super heavy bands with my best friend all through high school.

What is your biggest fear? Failing at something I’m passionate about. Is that too serious?

What is your dream job? Other than being a rock star? Teaching general music to a class of motivated, well-behaved, enthusiastic elementary schoolers.

Do you have any special talents? People say I make good ringtone music. I guess that’s a compliment.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Hopefully teaching music somewhere!

What’s something you’d like to do before you graduate? Visit my friend in Virginia and roast marshmallows on fishing rods off his roof.

Millersville

Joie Formando is an English major at Millersville University, with a concentration in Writing Studies and a minor in journalism and music. She loves to write and cook (which is a work in progress) and is looking forward to "becoming a grown-up" post-graduation! She is the Arts and Culture Editor of MU's newspaper, The Snapper, and an active photographer-in-training. She can play a few chords on the guitar (but you'll never catch her singing for anyone) and her biggest dream is to move to London and work for a children's book publishing company.
