6 Halloween Movie Favorites

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Miami (OH) chapter.

October brings candy, haunted houses, costumes, pumpkin patches and of course, Halloween one the best days that fall has to offer! And one of the easiest ways to get into the trick-or-treating spirit is to watch some of your favorite scary, or not so scary, Halloween movies.

Here’s a list of HC’s favorite classic films to get you into the spirit this year:

1. Casper the Friendly GhostNot all ghosts are scary! As one of our childhood favorites, Casper brings back fond memories of the not so scary Halloween movies. The half animated film gives Halloween lovers a little bit of romance and comedy all in one as Casper eagerly attempt to kiss his crush by the end of the Halloween night (aw) while dealing with the bumbling anitcs of his three obnoxious uncles Stretch, Fatso and Stinkie! This movie is truly a cute film that has people watching it again and again every year.

2. Halloween (and all of the sequels)Looking for something a little scarier this Halloween season? How about a masked serial killer named Michael? One of the greatest things about Halloween is cuddling up with a few blankets, getting your girls together, eating some popcorn and getting really scared watching creepy Halloween movies. Now, we might be afraid to look out the window or dream that someone might come and get us, but it’s always fun to get the adrenaline pumping!

3. Halloweentown (and all of the sequels)Oh Disney Channel, how you have helped us grow. With the classic Halloweentown we can always relive moments of our childhood as we watched Marnie go through her first experiences as a witch on Halloween night. Too bad we can’t get a bottomless bag like Grandma Aggie’s!

4. A Nightmare on Elm StreetStill looking for a little more horror in your Halloween movies? Check out this pretty gruesome flick with Freddy Krueger in order to get your fix! The film brings together some great costumes, makeup, blood and gore, making for the perfect Halloween horror movie. And of course, this one has plenty of sequels too.5. Hocus PocusThe Sanderson Sisters do Halloween better than anyone else! Watching these three very funny, but bumbling witches follow Max, Dani and Allison throughout the movie gives everyone a good laugh. IT has the best parts of Halloween wrapped up in one movie: trick-or-treating, mass amounts of candy, witches, costumes and a happy ending that warms all hearts watching the movie.

6. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie BrownWho could ever forget Charlie Brown? He’s the classic of the classics. Every holiday that comes around, we can always count on a Charlie Brown movie to be on TV. Watching the shenanigans of Snoopy, Lucy and the always unlucky Charlie Brown (who gets rocks in his trick-or-treat bag) is an easy way to get into the spirit.

Turn up the volume and turn down the lights, because these Halloween movies are just waiting to be watched. Happy Halloween!
