Newsflash: North Andover/Andover YMCA

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Merrimack chapter.

One of the best kept secrets about being a Merrimack student was that students could use the local YMCA for free. However, as of 2013, Merrimack students can no longer use it for free.

Merrimack students were initially granted the opportunity to use the YMCA free of charge because the YMCA members were given access to Lawler Arena Ice. YMCA members no longer had a need for an ice rink, so it was decided that the deal would no longer exist.

Although Merrimack students can no longer use the gym for free, they are able to sign up for a membership. Rates are $26 a month for those ages 19 to 23, which is perfectly geared towards college students.

Students looking for exercise classes on campus will be glad to know that there is fitness classes offered Sunday thru Thursday that is free to students.  Some of these classes include zumba and yoga. Merrimack’s gym is also open 24/7, allowing students the opportunity to customize their schedule.

Students interested in obtaining a YMCA membership or sticking with the gym at Merrimack have an opportunity to experience both options or whichever one best fits into your college experience.
