Is lip balm addiction a real thing? Because lip balm is one beauty product that I absolutely cannot live without, especially in the winter. I keep a tube on my nightstand, in my bathroom, at my desk, and I always, always make sure to throw one in my bag whenever I go out. If I’m having a particularly bad day and I forget to grab one before I leave the house, I won’t be able to focus on anything else other than on how dry, chapped and gross my lips feel! I’ve tried a lot of different lip balms over the years and here are few of my favourites:

While EOS is mostly known for its colourful egg-shaped Smooth Sphere lip balms, I personally find that packaging to be too bulky. I prefer the Smooth Sticks because they’re much more convenient and easier to carry around in my pocket – and they’re just as cute! The sticks have the same light fragrance and formula as the spheres; however, I found that they’re slightly creamier and not as waxy, which is a good thing. They go on clear and matte, making them perfect to wear underneath lipstick. Another thing that I really love is that they’re made with 95% organic ingredients, and they’re not tested on animals.

This lip balm from Nivea is nothing out of the ordinary but it does its job well. The fragrance is barely noticeable and it has no tint. If you’re someone who always ends up losing lip balms before finishing them, this one is great because it’s cheap yet effective, and it’s often sold in packs of two.

This lip balm from Sephora is great for everyday hydration. It has a pleasant vanilla scent and goes on light, leaving a clear glossy shine on the lips. I like how the top is slanted like a lipstick, as I find it looks neater and makes it easier to apply. This balm is formulated with shea butter, grapeseed oil, beeswax and Vitamin E for extra moisture, and has no parabens, sulfates or phthalates. It’s also not tested on animals!

Aquaphor might not be as fancy as the other lip balms – it has no fragrance, no flavour and no colourful packaging, but it is amazing. This lip balm is a must for winter; it seals in moisture and helps heal severely chapped and cracked lips. This was the only product that effectively soothed my extremely dry lips when I was on Accutane. It goes on a little thick so it works great as a hydrating overnight lip mask. You will wake up with super soft lips!

This Sugar Lip Treatment from Fresh is probably my favourite. It’s on the pricier side but it’s worth the splurge! The silky texture and citrus fragrance of this balm are irresistible. It has SPF 15 and it’s super hydrating but not greasy or sticky. The nourishing oils make your lips feel velvety smooth, and the subtle rosy tint is the perfect pop of color for every day. Plus, the moisturizing effect is long lasting; I found that I didn’t have to reapply it as often throughout the day, in comparison to other less expensive lip balms.

Say goodbye to chapped lips! With any of these lip balms on hand, you’ll be sure to get through the winter with soft, supple and smooth lips.
