Campus Cutie: Harris Miller

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

Meet this week’s Campus Cutie. Harris Miller is an electrical enginner with a sense of humour and carefree attitude. You won’t see him stressing about the small things in life or getting mad at insignificant events. More importantly, he’s a genuinely kind person who doesn’t hold grudges against others. Despite that, he thrives for stability and success.

Erica Ng for Her Campus McGill (HC McGill): What are you studying at McGill and why?

Harris Miller (HM): I’m studying Electrical Engineering and maybe Comp Sci as well… not because I like it, but because I am naturally pretty good at it, and I want to be able to do something with my life other than struggle for a living. One day I hope to have a great job so that I can retire early and be a grandfather or great uncle or something. I’m from Manhattan, on an unrelated note.

HC McGill: What are some of your hobbies and talents when you’re not studying?

HM: Well, I lost my guitar this summer, after I had just installed a cool new pickup, so not music anymore. However, I just got some used rock climbing gear for cheap. I’m going to hit the cliffs!

HC McGill: What’s your favourite thing about Montreal?

HM: Not the poutine or tam-tams, though, I do like them a lot. I’m much more interested in learning the ins and outs of the city. My french is an active work in progress, so more and more of the city is opening up to me.

HC McGill: What do you look for in a girl usually?

HM: The same thing I look for in guys: a**, a**, and a**. In actuality, I like a girl who shows me her genuine personality, with opinions grounded in reason. I could happily never again deal with any ardent, warlike worshippers of any modern dogma, including, but not limited to: religion, froyo, J. D. Salinger, linux, or youth movements in general.

HC McGill: If you could go anywhere, where would it be and why?

HM: Lately I’ve been really interested in going to a place with a totally foreign ecology. I was thinking the arctic for a while, but these days I’ve been mostly interested in spending some time in the northern Kunlun mountains of China. It’s a really cool clash of three ecosystems I’ve never been exposed to.

HC McGill: What’s your dream job?

HM: Well, I do like electricity a lot, and at first I wanted to design audio system components. However, higher level engineering classes have been showing me that real engineering is a lot less fun design and concept work, and more like costing out replacement parts. These days I’ve been thinking of starting a small resume review business, and I’ve started fiddling with a few baking recipes with my flat mates. If anyone wants a taste when we try a new recipe, feel free to message me on Facebook!

HC McGill: What’s your motto in life and what do you live for?

HM: Yolo, of course.
