Bringing in the New Brunch: 5 Options for 2015

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at McGill chapter.

It’s hard to believe that 2015 is right around the corner. It’s already time to start planning New Year’s Eve which usually includes a night of wild fun, lack of memories, and not going to bed until the next morning, only to eventually wake up at some ungodly hour wondering about what you’re going to eat for your first meal of 2015. Keep reading to find out about some delicious brunch (or what may turn into dinner) ideas!

Tip: You may want to make sure that you stock your fridge up the day before in order to avoid having to leave the comfort of your home the next day.

I have put together a list of five  recipes that will cater to different tastes, starting with a classic but well-loved brunch special.

Eggs Benedict (with a twist)

Although it seems rather unexciting, an eggs benny made well will certainly cure any signs of a hangover. However, rather than a traditional hollandaise sauce, this recipe is a little less rich and calls for a flavoured butter. Follow the easy steps below and you’ll be on your way to starting the new year off on a good foot and a full belly!

Breakfast Burritos

After a long night of dancing, this brunch is full of delicious ingredients that are sure to recharge those batteries. A burrito combines all the favourites, including eggs, meat and cheese. What more could a hungry and tired person wish for?

Dutch Babies (German Pancakes)

This is surprisingly one of the easier breakfasts to make for those of you who can hardly roll out of bed. This is a sweet option, and more exciting than just pre-heating those frozen waffles. Why not start your year off with a new dish and a new cooking experience?

Old-Fashioned Pancakes

For those of you who like to stick with the basics, this pancake recipe will not fail you. Even for those who lack cooking skills, this one is hard to mess up. Just be sure to stay awake while cooking to avoid burning! They’re fluffy and pefect with a drizzle of syrup on top. You could personalize your pancakes with your favourite toppings like fruit or nutella (or both, of course).

Shakshuka

For those of you who want something a little different to start off the new year, this is an incredible Israeli dish that I’m sure many of you haven’t made before. It’s defintely for those who are a little more awake and ready to test out their cooking skills. It’s a hearty and filling brunch that will send you into the new year feeling content.
