I find it extremely empowering when women take control of their sexuality and make the decisions that are right for them instead of listening to society. I mean, as long as we are practicing safe sex and not hurting anyone—and broken hearts don’t count boys—then I don’t see why we can’t get a little risqué this Valentines’ Day. Instead of sobbing about not having a date, take some tips on how to have a successful one-night stand from one of the funniest sitcoms out right now, The Mindy Project!

In a recent episode, the character Mindy, who is played by the fabulous, and hilarious Mindy Kaling, is tired of the trivial shenanigans that come from dating, thus her steamy co-star Ed Weeks, who plays Dr. Reed suggests that she tries a classic hit-and-quit-it. The only rule being that she finds someone she is sexually attracted to, but does not respect. In this scenario she is totally in control. Since her attraction is only on a physical level, then it is easy to sever ties when the dirty deed is complete!
A lot can be learned from this episode, even though Mindy’s one-night stand is interrupted by a series of less than likely to occur events, we are challenged to actually consider casual relationships, according to Hollywood.com.  “If you want to start enjoying life,” Hollywood.com staff writer said. “Just skip the date part and go right for the good stuff! You’re a modern woman. Welcome to 2013!”

Although this is an empowering, kick-ass idea, we at HC care for our readers and would like to advise that our ladies carry out our every risky action with a whole lot of caution. Safety is the most important rule when engaging in a one-night stand as sex and relationship expert Dr. Gabrielle Morrissey recently pointed out. “You need to be smart about your sexual health. Casual health isn’t so short-lived, if you take home a sexually transmitted infection. Be proactive with your precautions. Carry condoms and have them in an easily accessible place at your home. It says nothing else about you except that you’re realistic.”

Below are some more tips on how to make your one-night stand a successful one in terms of safety precautions. And remember to have fun and hold your head up high because you’re a modern woman!

Safety Rules

  1. Do not have engage in a one-night stand with someone who is a stranger. Make sure that you know the person and have some sort of already established relationship.
  2. Do ask your potential partner about his or her sexual history. Ask if he or she has gotten tested or if they would be opposed to the idea.
  3. Do not make decisions to have a one-night stand when you’re drunk!
  4. Make sure you ask your friends for their opinions before you make any spontaneous decision. Think about it!
  5. Remember you can say no at any moment if you change your mind!
  6. BE SAFE!
