How to Travel this Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

One of the best things about college is that during this time of your life you will be exposed to so many opportunities that you won’t have at any other time. Although sometimes you can’t get out of working over the summer, here are some ideas of how to fill your summers if you have the chance.

Research

Undergraduate research is a great way to boost your resume and possible applications once you get out of college and are looking at grad schools or finding a job. The best part about research is that you can also make it international, and get your college to pay for part or all of it. This is a great option to do with friends; you can get a free international trip and better your career!

Internship

Internships are a great way to work towards your career either at home, abroad or somewhere else in the country. Many universities will also offer students a stipend when they are doing an unpaid internship to take career-oriented internships over generic summer jobs.

Non Profit/International Organizations

Working for non profit organization is another way to travel cheaply over the summer. A lot of organizations (such as WWOOF) will send college aged students around the world to work in various jobs and on different projects. This is a great way to get work experience, travel internationally and learn about different cultures!

Friends — Road Trip, Beach Trip, adventure before school

With all everything going on, it is important to plan a little bit of each summer to spend time with friends. This is a great time in your life where you have the freedom to spend time with friends and go on adventures. Try to take a little bit of time to do a beach trip or road trip with your friends!
