When given the choice between a weekly food shop and a manicure, your cuticles are rarely going to come out victorious. As a Fresher I had mentally prepared myself for three years of split ends and dodgy DIY beauty fixes, but after one too many traumatic home-made egg face masks I decided to investigate the alternatives. I discovered that beauty on a budget in Leeds is very possible indeed – my student card transformed in front of my eyes into a golden ticket to all sorts of amazing discounts and offers.

Winner of the “Best New Business” award at the LLL Independent Business Awards, Pastille is situated just 5 minutes from Leeds train station. A manicure is £13 whilst a mani-pedi will set you back just £25. Don’t forget your student card on a Tuesday or Wednesday for an extra 10% student discount!

TANNING – Angels of Beauty:
Maintaining a summer glow throughout the year is one of the biggest struggles for those in possession of the XX chromosome. Fake tanning at home is all fine and well until it comes to doing those places that are just out of reach – by the time you’ve woken your flatmate up to help you, chances are it’s going to be streaky. The Angels of Beauty salon in Kirkstall offers a full body spray tan for £15, with an extra 10% off for students. At £13.50, you can afford to treat yourself every now and again!

EYEBROWS – Millie’s Beauty Salon and Mint
Tucked away in the city centre, Millie’s beauty salon offers eyebrow threading for £8 and eyebrow tinting for £7 – plus a whopping TWENTY percent student discount. Another place for those on the hunt for a brow bargain is Mint salon where the “definition brow treatment”, including threading, waxing and tinting, is just £13.
