Today I’m writing about a song called “Something Big” by Shawn Mendes. This is the first song by a viner/youtube person that I’m not completely repulsed/ annoyed by. Shawn’s debut single, “Life of the party” made me roll my eyes, not necessarily because it was awful, but because he’s Vine famous and has a high voice and the whole thing felt quite inauthentic. This time around, Shawn’s new single “Something Big” isn’t totally original, but it feels fresh and very current. The song uses a beat that has the vibe of Ed Sheeran’s “Sing”, a chant-y chorus, and horns, and all three of these elements are dominating radio stations today. It’s a really good song with a good concept. I think this song will get him to be taken more seriously and actual radio play. Something big is definitely on the horizon for this pop star in the making.
