Music Monday With Val: John Newman

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.

Happy Monday Lovies!

I’m finally back with the first Music Monday of the spring semester. While I was on break back at home I got addicted to watching the VH1 show, “ Mob Wives”. You’re probably asking what the show has to do with my new favorite artist… well the show actually features a lot of music from the new artist John Newman. After I heard one song from him on the show, I ran to my computer and searched the song, I went to download a song and ended up downloading his entire album “ Tribute” on the spot.

He came out of nowhere and I’m so glad I discovered him because let me tell you he is one incredible artist.  John Newman is a 23 year old small town guy from Settle, England who can do it all, he writes his own music, remixes his songs, write his own video scripts and get this, he even designs his own clothes!

Even though he is just breaking into the music scene, he has been a star in the UK since last year since his debut album, “Tribute” topped the charts and his song “Love Me Again” blew up all over the UK.  That hit song was actually the song that was actually first featured on the show “Mob Wives” and what got me instantly falling in love this soulful artist.  His music is one of a kind; it has this soul-pop type of feel that reminds me of Fitz and the Tantrums mixed with Motown that makes the music so unique. This guy is really blowing up all over the world and many have called him a male Adele and Amy Whinehouse.

His songs are mostly focused on love and heartbreak but his vocals are insane, you can hear the strength and power in his voice that has to be one of the reasons I have fallen for him as an artist! To add to his crazy vocals, his beats are so catchy they make the songs so lively and powerful. He hands down is my new favorite artist and I have a feeling he will be my favorite for a long time! Give John Newman a try ladies, I know you’ll be a fan as soon as you hear just one song!

Check out his debut album, “ Tribute” on itunes! The album contains 15 powerful and energetic tracks that will have you dancing around within seconds!
