Getting Over the Mid-Semester Blues

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.

Dolphins, get your groove back! Every year, around this time, we fall into the mid-semester blues.  There are midterm exams to study for, the weather takes too long to get nice, Dolphy Day seems ages away, and not to mention, the cafe food makes you miss home-cooked meals more than ever. It is hard to get back into the swing of things, especially when winter break was just two months ago, but it’s important to end these last few months with a bang. So, here’s how to do it!

1. Start your day right!

– Like they say, the early bird catches the worm. Wake up early, shower, and eat some breakfast. Even if you’re just going to class, throw those sweat pants in the closet, and throw on something cute, yet comfy! Choose something, that when you look in the mirror, you can say “I feel good today!”

– Not a morning person? That’s fine. Same routine applies, but try to make sure you’re getting enough sleep in order to give yourself  time to get yourself together before class. AVOID RUSHING AND LAST MINUTE WORK! I know it’s probably tough if you have all-nighters, but this is never good.

2. Get it RIGHT, Get it TIGHT!

-A good workout will always set you up for a good mood. Do it with friends! Support at the gym always makes working out fun! The work out doesn’t have to be anything intense. Try Zumba a few times a week. This will sure boost up your endorphins (our natural pain killers!), which means a good mood and a good day of class/work. Here’s a schedule for the fitness classes at LMC.

3. WRITE IT DOWN!

– Keep a planner, keep it organized, keep track! Write down important dates and events because this way, when you get distracted with Kan Jam on the quad, you can go back to your room, look at your planner, and know what’s next on the agenda. No surprises.

4. Eat Well and Stay Hydrated.

– I know it’s a pain because there aren’t many choices when you live on a college campus, but try substituting Dominos for something a little healthier, like Pita Pit on Marshall Street. You can build your own pita with your choice of meats and healthy veggies.

5. Breathe, Stretch, Shake, Let it go!!

– Any problems or concerns that have been weighing heavy on your shoulders will take a toll on your daily life and may affect the way you perform in school. Talk it out, write it down, and just let it go.

– Let loose at our on-campus events! Check out Echo, the LSPB event wall, posters around campus and The Stall Street Journal. They’re usually FREE!

– Take a break and reward yourself.

Collegiettes, remember that if we work hard, we can play harder! Good luck during these last few months!

Camlyn will be a senior at Le Moyne college in the Fall of 2012. She's majoring in Communications with a concentration in Print Journalism and is a Creative Writing minor. As an NYC native, Camlyn indulges in anything that involes fashion and daily lifestyles. She aspires to be something like the modern day Carrie Bradshaw, as a magazine journalist for one of her favorite magazines. She has interned with Mercedes Sanchez, founder of her own fashion and beauty blog, BeChicMag.com and ELLE Magazinge. Along with being a HC Correspondent, Camlyn is the PR representative to the Latino based club on campus, El Progreso.More than anything, Camlyn is just super excited to be a part of the HC team! <33
Omairys, a born and raised New York City gal of the Dominican descent, is a motivated Communications/Advertising major, with a minor in English. She does not know what she will do with her Communications degree after graduation but is ambitious enough to hope it will be something promising, as this field has been her passion for as long as she could remember. She is actively involved on campus, as she is President of El Progreso, a multicultural organization that strives to raise awareness of the Latino community. She loves to travel: she has traveled to Kenya to work at The Nyumbani Program and will be interning at our nation's capital her senior year! She is hard working, and excited to bring change to her campus---Le Moyne.
