Looking to the Fall: Field Hockey

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

The Lasell field hockey team is already starting to prepare for pre season 2016. Every year, the team comes back the third week of August for tryouts and preseason. Pre-season, as said by many, is definitely the hardest part of being an athlete. From cutting our summer short, to having double-session practices everyday for 4-5 hours, it is a huge commitment to be a division III college athlete. Running miles, doing sprints, agility drills, stickhandling, and overall hard core fitness, we have to come back every summer to campus in our best shape. Over the summer, we follow our summer workout which is designed to work our bodies to be in perfect shape for August. We follow this routine all summer up until our try out date. After tryouts, we move into Rockwell with the other fall season sports teams, and stay there until right before school starts, and then move into our real rooms. The excitement leading up to our first scrimmages and games is unreal, as we spend all our time trying to perfect our skills to be ready for games. Head coach Caitlin Connolly and Assistant Coach Catherine Weber, work diligently to create the most effective drills for our team to excel in the sport and be ready to face every team we play. “Playing a college sport is one of the most exciting, stressful, greatest experiences I’ve ever had, and I am glad I had the opportunity to be part of such an amazing journey with my team,” says junior #8, Adrienne Amadon. Late away games getting back after 11pm, sore, aching muscles, being exhausted from the daily life of a student plus having practice every day in the fall, is what we do for the sport the brings us all together as one team, one family, LCFH.
