Emmy Kestlinger: Prez of Pride

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Emmy Kestlinger, senior, is a young woman driven to help others and expand her horizons along the way.

In 2011, during her first year at Lasell, Kestlinger opted to join the Pride club on campus. She had sat in on the first meeting with a friend and developed a passion to help the LGBT community from there. Since 2011, Kestlinger has risen through the ranks and became the club president this year.

It  {Pride} made me believe that I’m fighting for the right for everybody to be able to love who they love without judgement,” Kestlinger said describing how Pride has changed her.

In her short term as president, she has organized numerous activities on campus, including a successful National Coming Out Day event this past week. She has become a strong voice and advocate for the LGBT community on campus.

I hope to make Pride be more noticeable. I want people to know the things we do and help get our message across campus,” she said on her goals for Pride this year.

While her term as president may be a short one, her work ethic and passion for giving the LGBT community a voice is not. After graduation she hopes to work for a non profit organization benefitting LGBT rights and communities. As for now, she hopes to continue increasing Pride’s voice and influence on campus.

“Our message is that everybody should have equal rights no matter who they love,” Kestlinger said.
