Campus Cutie: Phoebe Rotter ’14

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

I have had the pleasure to know Phoebe Rotter quite well and can assure you that she is the cutest Campus Cutie of all time. She has a dramatic yet invitingly calm personality, the sassiest hair flips, a rambunctious laugh, and the gosh darn greatest dimples you will ever see. You can find her twirling through the dance studios, acting in Shakespearean dramas, rocking every cool skirt you once found in a thrift shop but didn’t think you could pull off, and smiling like a professional for her friends’ photo projects. She is an inspiration, a loving friend, and most importantly this week’s Campus Cutie!

Full Name: Phoebe Kaimal RotterAge: 22Year: Senior (eek!)Major: Art History, Italian Language MinorHometown: Hamilton, NYRelationship Status: ALI STAMATOIU

HCK: What activities are you involved with on campus?PR: Stairwells, KCDC, and Dance Team. I also cut a lot of hair, but I’m not sure if that counts.

Describe yourself in three words.Silly, affectionate, gremlin.

What is your favorite freshman year memory? There are a lot! Freshman year was beautiful. One of the best moments was the ice storm in the dead of winter, when everything got covered in this very slick layer of freezing rain in under half an hour. My friends and I went out on the quad at midnight and penguin-slid all over the paths on our bellies. Then the power went out and we all curled up in a friend’s bed and watched the storm outside. The next morning the power was still out and classes had been cancelled, so we just slid around all day and played in the snow. It was a really excellent day.

Have you completed your Kenyon bucketlist? If not what do you still have left to do? I have a lot to do! I don’t know how much I’ll be able to manage in the next few weeks, but I want to ride my bike down the Kokosing trail and end up at Southside for breakfast. (On that note, if you stole my bike please give it back so that I can do this! It is white and says “Outpost” on it in blue. Thx.)

I also want to complete a staged reading of this amazingly terrible show we did in Renegade my freshman year, “Dog Sees God.” It’s mostly about the Peanuts gang growing up and experimenting with substance abuse. We’re trying to get the whole cast back together to do it.

What Beyoncé song describes your personality best? This is a supremely difficult question. I think it’s a tie between “Grown Woman,” because the beat is sassy and the message is great, and “Jealous,” because it is so honest and it makes me cry? Is that embarrassing?

What TV character do you relate to most and why?I feel Chummy from “Call The Midwife” on a lot of levels. She’s a totally awkward, extremely kind midwife and she has some of the great comic moments on the show. It’s also just a really, really good show.

What’s your spirit animal? Not super sure about that, but my Patronus would absolutely be a raccoon.

Top three places you hope to travel to?Iceland, The Columbia River Gorge, and Patagonia. Mountains, I guess.

Celebrity Crush…Male: Robb Stark (weep)Female: Meryl Streep/Beyonce (too close to call)

What is the best advice a Kenyon professor has ever given you?Julie Brodie always reminds me to trust the power of my own body. I love that.

Will you be back to visit soon?!I REALLY HOPE SO, OH MAN.

Ally Bruschi is a senior political science major at Kenyon College. She spent this past summer interning as a writer with both The Daily Meal, a digital media group  dedicated to "all things food and drink" and The Borgen Project, a non-profit organization that partners with U.S. policymakers to alleviate global poverty. Before entering the "real world" of jobs, however, Ally spent many summers as a counselor at an all-girls summer camp in Vermont, aka the most wonderful place on earth. A good book, a jar of peanut butter, a well-crafted Spotify playlist, and a lazy dog could get her through even the worst of days.
