5 Reasons You Will Survive Until Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

My uncle always says that Thanksgiving is the best holiday because it has all the food and family of Christmas but none of the stress. And god knows we’ve got stress here. We’re definitely in need of a week-long break from it, but we’re not there yet, kids. After suffering through midterms and the despair of post-leafy Middle Path, Thanksgiving is a glimmer of hope, a short but oh-so-necessary rest. So as you make your way through the last upcoming hell week (for now), here are five motivational thoughts to get you through:

Peircegiving

Aka the best day ever in our dining hall.
Freshman, you will not know how to handle yourself. Thomas becomes a madhouse and the Great Hall goes all out with long serving tables covered in turkey, green beans, rolls, corn, stuffing, gravy, pie, eggnog and more.  Maybe it’s not your mom’s pie or grandma’s gravy, but the atmosphere screams festivity. And it’s a sign of break to come.

Watching Thanksgiving specials on the Food Network

This is my favorite time of year for cooking shows. The Barefoot Contessa is one of the most soothing shows to watch, so add some Turkey Day food and it’s heaven. Gather some friends and take a much-needed study break to watch Giada be perfect, Alton celebrate the holidays in his nerdy way, or Paula Deen use a whole lot of butter.

Know that you will be home in less than a week:

We all know that feeling when you walk into your home after being away for a few months. Watching TV and eating real food at 11 PM when your parents are already asleep. Seeing family and friends.  And best of all, showering without shower shoes. You’re almost there.

Food. So much food!:

Not only will you get a break from eating a Panini every night at Peirce, but you get the meal of all meals. From to cooking the night before, to watching your grandpa carve the turkey, to stuffing yourself at dinner (and proceeding to fall asleep on the floor), to the oh-so-wonderful leftover turkey sandwiches, just know that food is on its way.

Even after the food is all gone, you come back to good old Gambier:

There is still reason to celebrate. From now until next semester begins,we’re officially in holiday season. Be sure to bring back twinkly lights from home to hang in your dorm room, download all of your family’s Christmas CDs to your iTunes, and bake some candy cane cookies or stockpile some Hanukkah gelt to get your through the last three weeks of the semester.
