Terry Collins Will No Longer Manage the Mets

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.

Usually one doesn’t fire a manager who helped a team rebuild after they suffered from financial decline, a scandal, two straight losing seasons and then led them to the World Series in 2015, but in Terry Collins case, he had to go. He was making bad decisions that were affecting the Mets team as a whole.

Some of you might recall the bad decisions that he made. Last year, in games that happened on August 5th and 6th, Collins neglected to challenge plays that were important to the games’ outcomes and as a result, they lost both of those games. He didn’t challenge a play where Martinez appeared out a second and when Martinez threw Jay Bruce out at the plate the Mets just walked off the field and that was it.

If you don’t think failing to challenge plays in two games wasn’t enough, remember what he did to Henderson, Harvey and Famillia. He overworked them on the basis that they said they were fine. Some of them had serious injuries or were ill. The manager shouldn’t be listening to players tell him that they’re fine just because they want to play; he should be letting them rest and putting in players that could help them win.

We wish Terry Collins the best of luck assisting Sandy Alderson in the Mets front office and hope he won’t just rely on the advice of others to make important decisions. We hope he will express his own opinions
