Collin Schuck

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.

This week’s Campus Cutie is Collin Schuck, a journalism and sports media double major who served as the news director for WICB radio this year and has just received VIC radio’s sports director position for next year and the remainder of this year. He also works for Newswatch 16, Ithaca College’s local television news show. When he’s not busy broadcasting on the radio or working at the news station, Collin enjoys spending time with the music fraternity he belongs to, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Read the rest of this interview to see what this New Jersey native has been up to here at IC.

HC: As the new sports director for VIC, you obviously spend a lot of time watching sports. What is your favorite sports team?
CS: My favorite team is the Philadelphia Phillies.

HC: Why did you choose to come to Ithaca College?
CS: I got into both Ithaca and Syracuse for journalism,  but I chose to come to Ithaca because I could get involved with what I wanted to do [like radio and television] right away. Also, the programs were just a lot better here at IC.

HC: What is one thing about yourself that the average person you work with at the radio station wouldn’t know about you?
CS: I applied to be on “Survivor.” Obviously, I didn’t make it.

HC: Where do you see yourself in five years?
CS: Hopefully, I’ll be working at a television or radio station for the sports department; I’d  also like to work for a  sports radio station – that would be really cool. Or announcing for a sports team – minor or major league.

HC: Unfortunately for our readers, you’re in a relationship. However, we’d like to know what the most memorable date with your girlfriend was like and what your ideal date would be with her.
CS: The best date I’ve had with my  girlfriend was actually our first date. We weren’t actually, “offically” together yet, but we decided to go to Joe’s restaurant together. We had only planned to be there for about thirty or forty minutes. We ended up staying there for two hours; we hadn’t even noticed how much time had passed because we were too busy eating, talking, laughing, just having a good time. It’s one of the moments that I will always cherish. My ideal date would be mini golf, then coming back to watch a movie.

HC: What traits do you find most attractive in a girl?
CS: What makes a person attractive is what they are: I don’t mind a little dorkiness; I love it, actually. You just have to be able to have fun and smile a lot. Caring, trustworthy – basically being a geniunely good and nice person is the most attractive thing about a girl.

HC: What are your plans for this summer?
CS: I will be interning for a sports radio station in Philadelphia this summer – 97.5, The Fanatic Philadelphia.
