Her Campus Ithaca College: How do you think becoming captain of the football team has changed the way you play football?

Wolfgang Shafer: It has made me more aware as a player. I feel more involved with the entire team, rather than just the offense, in regards to the way I practice and interact with my teammates. I try to be that positive influence on a day to day basis because I want the guys around me to feel the same way that I do about playing football. It’s too much fun not to run around with a smile on your face.

HCIC: What’s your favorite part about playing a sport for your school?

WS: Playing football at Ithaca is a true fraternity. My favorite part about playing this sport at IC is the family atmosphere that has been established each year which, in turn, has created lifelong friendships and bonds that have made my time at IC incredibly unique and special to me.

HCIC: Who’s your biggest role model?

WS: My parents. My dad is my best friend and has taught me to find purpose in the life that I have and respect for people around me. I am a momma’s boy and she is my number one fan. She lives life to the fullest and is the most positive person I know. She has taught me compassion and love which are two things that I am so fortunate to have in a mother.

HCIC: How did you decide your major?

WS: I originally was a History Education major until I decided to make a switch to tailor it to what I want to do after I graduate (Coach). My parents were both Comm. Studies majors and had nothing but good things to say about their experience. I decided to give it a try and haven’t looked back since.

HCIC: Where is your favorite place to go in Ithaca?

WS: 2nd Dam.

HCIC: If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

WS: My mom’s Thanksgiving dinner.

HCIC: Who’s your celebrity crush?

WS: Rihanna.

HCIC: Where would you take a girl on a first date?

WS: Depends on the young lady that agrees to go out with me. I have some ideas though.

HCIC: What’s your favorite TV show?

WS: The Office.
