Fashion Blog: The Swimsuit Solution

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

After weeks (or possibly months) of counting down the days until spring break, it is finally here! Although the weather in the C-U hit a warm spell right as we all prepare to embark on a weeklong break from all things relating to a textbook, have no fear! Just because it is nearly the same temperature on campus as it is on South Padre, do not fret — just get a head start to your spring break ensemble. With spring break comes serious style, especially in the form of swimsuits. After all, we all want to look stylish while our bodies are bright red and smothered in tanning oil, right?

There are many options to finding the perfect swimsuit this season, even when you are in Champaign. While running errands at Target the other day, I couldn’t help myself from wandering around the swimsuit section. Here I found swimsuits in every style, pattern and color, and most importantly, they were affordable. Since neon colors are in this season, especially on college campuses where “the brighter, the better,” check out the vast array of neon bikinis Target has to offer. These little pieces are perfect for Spring Break on any coast.

If you like to invest more money in your swimsuits, my new favorite brand is Tyler Rose Swimwear. This swimwear brand is all the rage on the West Coast and embodies that California girl look and attitude. Most importantly, these swimsuits come in multiple shapes to satisfy your body type. Yes, they are a tad pricey (about $200 for a complete suit), but they will last multiple seasons and take your beach body image to the next level, I promise.

For collegiettes trying to find a balance between Target and Tyler Rose Swimwear, I highly recommend checking out Victoria’s Secret, especially their online store because it has more options. Victoria’s Secret has mastered their swimsuit line, no doubt. The thing I love most about it is how they really translate the fit of their bras into their swimwear, which makes ordering online so much easier and less stressful. I’m also in love with their string racer back bikini tops — this is a style you can anticipate seeing much more of in the coming months.

No matter where you choose to shop for swimsuits this season, there are plenty of options to satisfy your inner beach goddess. First and foremost, don’t just buy something to buy something; make sure you feel comfortable in your choice because it is the worst feeling knowing a swimsuit doesn’t fit just right. Second, be creative with the patterns and silhouette of your swimsuit. No matter what, swimsuits typically end up being an all day, every day outfit while vacationing in beach hotspots, so make sure you have plenty of options.

Emily Cleary is a 22-year-old news-editorial journalism major hoping to work in the fashion industry, whether that be in editorial, marketing, PR or event planning is TBD. With internships at Teen Vogue and StyleChicago.com, it's clear that she is a fashion fanatic. When she's not studying (she's the former VP of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta), writing for various publications or attending meetings for clubs like Business Careers in Entertainment Club, Society of Professional Journalists, The Business of Fashion Club, or for her role as the Assistant Editor of the Arts & Entertainment section of her school's magazine, she's doing something else; you will never find her sitting still. She loves: running (you know those crazy cross-country runners...), attending concerts and music festivals, shopping (of course), hanging out with friends, visiting her family at home, traveling (she studied abroad in London when she was able to travel all over Europe), taking pictures, tweeting, reading stacks and stacks of magazines and newspapers while drinking a Starbuck's caramel light frappacino, blogs and the occasional blogging, eating anything chocolate and conjuring up her next big project. Living just 20 minutes outside of Chicago, she's excited to live there after graduation, but would love to spend some time in New York, LA, London or Paris (she speaks French)!
