4 Closet Essentials for Every Collegiette

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

In college, it’s easy to overspend on things we will only end up wearing once. To make things easier, I’ve complied a list of four items that every collegiette should have in her closet. These are items that you will not only get many uses out of, but they’re also timeless pieces that will never go out of style.

1. The White Tee

This is really as basic as it gets, and lucky for us the white tee is always stylish and comfortable. I probably own about five “basic” white tees myself. But regardless, the white T-shirt is great on it’s own or it can be easily dressed up or down. It’s great for layering especially in the fall. Pair it with an oversized flannel, and you’ve got the perfect outfit for class!

2. Dark Skinny Jeans

This one seems pretty obvious as no-one really wears flare jeans anymore, but never underestimate the power of a good jean. A nice dark wash pair of skinny jeans can do wonders for your legs and your overall body shape. It might take a while, but try as many on as you need to find what fits best. I guarantee once you do find “that pair,” you won’t regret it. They will probably end up being the only pair of jeans you ever want to wear.

3. Nude Heels

If you need any one pair of heels, nude heels are it. That’s because they are perfect for business causal or other dressier events that you might have to attend on campus. They give you extra height without looking tacky. Because they are nude they will go with everything. You will definitely be getting a lot of use out of them too; they won’t just sit in your closet collecting dust. If you don’t know what shoe to wear, you can’t go wrong with the nude heel.

4. Black Blazer

This is definitely a staple piece in any woman’s closet. But it’s especially important for collegiettes because you can dress it up or down. It’s perfect for career fairs and job interviews on campus, but it also works for a night out with your other basics: a pair of dark skinny jeans and a white tee layered underneath. Any item that serves more than one use is definitely of benefit, which is why it’s my number one item that every college girl should have in her closet. So if you don’t have one, go buy one right now. Seriously.

As you can see, all of these items are pieces that you can dress up or down, and that’s key. If you can do that, then you know you will get ample use of an item, which a must in college. We are all on some type of budget at the end of the day!

Year: Senior Major: Advertising Nickname: meesh My college friends (I feel so grown up and sophisticated saying “my college friends”) started calling me meesh about a year ago and it just kinda stuck. So I may go by that from time to time. The nickname actually serves as the inspiration for my personal blog: Just Meesh.
