Why It’s Okay To Have A Boyfriend In College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

A lot of girls question if they’ll be missing out on college life if they are “tied down” with a significant other. The single life may be fun for a little while, but in the end having someone you love to keep you sane during the craziest, most stressful, and amazing four years of your life is actually a great thing.

Here are seven reasons why it’s okay to have a boyfriend in college:

1. You’ll always have someone there for you.

College can be so hectic at times with all of the homework, tests, and other campus activities you may be involved in. Sometimes all you need is a few words of encouragement from the one you love to eliminate your stress.

2. You’ll still have fun going out.

Girls who are “taken” tend to worry that they won’t have as much fun as all of the “single ladies” when they go out. If your boyfriend isn’t around, go out with all of your girlfriends! They’ll make sure you have a good time and these memories are usually the best kind.

3. No random hookups.

Having a boyfriend in college means no walk of shame for you. This is something that a lot of single college girls will continue to struggle with until they find a significant other. You? You’ll be waking up comfortably in your own bed; with your clothes on.

4. He’ll take you on dates.

Similar to that of most colligates, you probably don’t have all of the money in the world. So, going out to a fancy restaurant, or Chipotle (if we are being honest), is such a treat when you’re living off of PB&J and Ramen.

5. He’ll keep you going.

When you’re in over your head with homework and have a million things to do, it’s not uncommon for girls to have a meltdown every now and then. With your boyfriend in college, you get to have someone whom you love and trust to help you through it!

6. It’ll be that much more special when you see him.

Busy would be the one of the best adjectives to describe college. When you don’t have as much free time anymore, you might have to sacrifice hanging out with your guy to study or do assignments. When you have a chance to actually miss him, it’s that much more special when you are able to hangout.

7. You won’t be focused on trying to find a boyfriend.

Since you already have someone that loves and cares about you, you don’t have to worry about trying to find a boyfriend! You can focus more on your academics and other things that college has to offer. Plus, you won’t be obsessively checking your phone to see if that guy from a couple nights ago texted you back.

Having a boyfriend doesn’t have to be a drag in college. Special relationships, including the one you have with your significant other, are what make college so much fun!
