It’s a Girls Night Woostah Edition: 3 Simple Steps that will take your GNO from Drab to Fab

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Holy Cross chapter.

We all love our Wednesday night Leitrums and our Saturday nights at the Lacrosse house, but its about time we spice up our usual routine and try something totally new!  Go against the grid and have a night out in the city that you surely won’t forget.  It’s time to gather your ladies and hit the town for a new and improved Girl’s Night Out!  Here’s how to add a little spice (Pumpkin, perhaps?) to your GNO:

  1. Pre-Party-Prep-Fest

As collegiette’s with a passion for fashion and a love for our friends, we all know that the most exciting, and certainly the most memorable, part of our evening out is the preparation with our ladies.  It just wouldn’t feel right if you didn’t try on every item in your closet not once, but twice, before coming up with the final product- what else is a fashionista to do when the weather on the Hill goes from sunny and 75 to rainy and below 0 all in the matter of hours?  If your mascara doesn’t end up on your forehead or your hair isn’t frizzier than you ever thought imaginable (shout out to my fellow curly-haired-crazies) the night would seem oddly incomplete. It’s the chaotic mess that we call “getting ready” which sets the tone for what’s to come of the evening ahead. When it come’s to a night with your ladies, getting ready is even more crucial.  Spice up the usual hair-tastrophe’s and makeup mishaps by designating each member of your posse a beautifying role!  Think dorm room turned beauty salon.  Your field hockey friend who has the sickest playlists?  She’s DJ for the night.  Your roommate who works wonders with a curling iron?  Hello, hairdresser!  Girl Next Door does a mean cat-eye with that liquid eyeliner?  Designate this chick to makeup artist (not that you need any, beautiful!).

2.  Capturing the Moments

Once your hair’s did, nail’s did everything did, it’s Instagram time, #obvi!  With the help of your glam-squad and a few personalized finishing touches, #nofilter will be necessary tonight.  Skip the typical dorm room pics and dingy stairwell snap stories and take this photo-op elsewhere.  Scenery is everything: consider stunning Mt. Saint James as your backdrop and get posing!  The temperatures may be plummeting, but with the help of your crew you can keep things warm and cozy by getting together and sharing the heat.  Freezing cold got you feeling bitter?  Work with the backdrops in your building to pose the perfect picture;  if your neighbor’s hipster tapestry speaks to you, snap a few in her room!  Blank hallway walls act as a great green screen for those of you with dorm room clutter!

3.  The Venue

As Lady Saders, we all love a good night out on the town, whether it be treating yourself on a weeknight or partying-partying-YEAH on the weekend, venturing off campus is always a joyous occasion- especially with your girlfriends in tow!  Consider skipping the usual spots and planning a night with your girls which involves something you have yet to try before in the city of Worcester.  Maybe that means taxiing to a luxurious steakhouse (One Eleven Chophouse, anyone?!) and sipping on some flirty cocktails.  Could go for some entertainment? Check out a concert at the DCU Center (J. Cole, T.I, Kid Ink, Tinashé, Childish Gambino calls for your best dance moves Nov.2nd!).  Better yet, treat yourself to a pedicure and flick at Blackstone Cinema for a cute and casual evening (cap it off with Birthday Cake Remix at Coldstone, perhaps?!).  When it comes to your venue, it is about exploring new, fresh, exciting places!  Whatever you decide, the key to a successful GNO is quite simple:  keep your girls at your hip and it is sure to be a HIT!
