Harvard Square Restaurants for Every Occasion

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Harvard chapter.

A girl can only handle HUDS’s tikki masala chicken and the salvation of the Grill’s grilled cheese for so long before she craves something—ANYTHING—different. Sometimes, a weekend of delicious, non-mass produced food is absolutely necessary. Below is a guide to a flawless weekend spent at the best restaurants in the Square for every occasion.

It’s Friday and you have had one of the busiest weeks of your life. Celebrate the end of the week with a yummy lunch at Yenching. Yenching on Massachusetts Avenue has incredibly authentic and delicious Chinese food with just the right amount of kick. Plus, there’s a lunch special that comes with soup, egg rolls, rice, and three entrees for only $7.50!!! YUM!

I know you’re super popular and that you have friends from all over the place, so when friends from out of town to visit you Friday night, be sure to take them to John Harvard’s Brewery. One of the oldest restaurants in the square, the Brewery on Dunster Street is a perfect example of the Bostonian pub atmosphere. Delicious comfort food, great beer, and a fun way to introduce your friends to the classic Harvard! It’s also super close to the final clubs, so you can walk over there pretty quickly after a late dinner—or just go back to your room and watch Netflix, I won’t judge.

That cute boy in section finally asked you out on a date (yay!!!) but maybe a lunch will be more casual and more fun for a first date, ya know? Suggest eating at Cambridge 1, a hipster-feeling, quirky Italian place on Church Street. They have a pizza with STEAK on it. Yeah. Steak. It’s a fun place to talk and get to know one another without loud music or romantic and awkwardly dimmed lights.

We all know that they cute boy in section probably turned out to be a dork who chews with his mouth open and pronounces the word “punctual” in the strangest way, so you’ll probably need a fun night out with your girlfriends to come up with funny nicknames for him and pretend being single is way better anyway. Take them out to Border, a delicious Mexican place on Church Street. Yummy margaritas, unlimited tortilla chips, and amazing entrees. Go Border!

Who said you could ever get enough Mexican food? No one did. Ever. So after a fun night out at the final clubs (or in between seasons of Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix), stop by Taco Truck on Mt. Auburn Street. Delicious late night food. May I recommend the chicken quesadilla? It is flawless. Nom nom nom.

Ugh. Sunday morning. Your head is probably POUNDING. And you just need something YUMMY. Go on down to Zinneken’s on Massachusetts Avenue. Grab a delicious brunch of Belgian waffles with Nutella and bananas to cure the Sunday blues.

Finally, Sunday night. Your parents miss you like CRAZY so they surprise you by coming out to visit! Hooray! Ask them to take you out to Harvest on Brattle Street. Incredible seasonal menu with meals that I literally DREAM about. Slobber on my pillow, oops. Just be sure to let them know that Harvest is on the more expensive side—otherwise you’ll be the one surprising THEM.

Monday is back to the grind, yeah. But you just had a weekend of deliciousness. Check out these amazing Harvard Square restaurants whenever you have the extra time and money and space in the stomach!
