Hampton University Honors Mike Brown

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

On Monday, November 24, 2014, Hamptonians gathered at the Booker T. Washington statue in honor of Mike Brown and victims of police brutality after the news that the Ferguson police officer that killed Brown will not be charged was released to the public. The editorial team of Hampton University’s newspaper, The Script, planned the gathering right before the news came out.

The gathering was very emotional and consisted of words of encouragement, spoken words, some selections, and words from people who live in the area the tragedy occurred in. The gathering was perfect to continue to motivate the student body and remind them just how important their voices are. Hampton is just one of the many HBCU’s who is ready to fight and make their voices heard for justice. This is only the beginning!
