Her Story: I Survived Homecoming 2015

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

This Homecoming was one to remember, especially for one of our GSU Collegiettes. It was her last one as a senior at GSU, so she had to partake in all of the festivities throughout the week. But she needed a few things to make sure she was prepared. One of her roommates at One 12 Apartments was going out of town and missing Homecoming, but she thought of making a “Survival Kit” basket for all of them to be safe during Homecoming.

First thing she noticed was this really cute pennant from Her Campus to add to her desk station. She’s a huge fan of the magazine, and has a collection of HC Swag all over her room. Next, she immediately noticed the beauty items in the basket. The Royal Ball was swiftly approaching and she needed something to match the theme, A Night in the Wild, at The Fernbank. Goodies from TRESemmé and NYC New York Color were sure to give her flawless eye makeup and perfect hair for the ball. The Perfectly (un)Done Sea Salt Spray and Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creation Sea Foam gave her perfect waves for a night in the wild, and her new colors of the City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeshadow and Eye Primer gave her the most beautiful and vibrant shade to match her long formal gown.

The next day was the Annual Homecoming Golf Cart Parade around campus and she was responsible for decorations on her cart. Her new Martha Stewart Crafts that came in her Survival Kit basket were definitely a big help with making her cart perfectly pink and full of glitter. Everyone in the crowd loved her HCXO cart!

It was finally the weekend of the Homecoming game, but first she had to note that there were a few things she and her roommates were involved in the next week after homecoming. It was the first day of October, which meant their campaign #GettingBackGivingBack was starting, with the #NoCeilings 30-Day Challenge being first. The Full Participation Project is an initiative of the Clinton Foundation that works to advance and inspire the full participation of girls and women in the 21st century. She’s The First was the next initiative they were a part of to help provide scholarships to girls in low-income countries, and they were planning a really big fundraiser on campus. Last but not least was the My Social Canvas campaign to design and create apparel collections for a cause. They had a busy week ahead of them, so before she indulged in game day she made sure to get her to-do list together.

It was finally Game Day! GSU played Liberty at the Georgia Dome, and there were tailgates everywhere outside. She had plans to stay with some more of her other friends that night, so she grabbed a change of clothes and her new MZ Wallace Chelsea Tote. She had her eyes on this tote for the longest, and her roommate figured it would be a great early Christmas present. After the game, she headed back to campus on the shuttle. To keep her company, she had two new reads from Penguin Random House called We Were Liars by E. Lockhart and Every Day by David Levithan. They were both New York Times bestsellers, so she was very excited to read them.

After partying the night away, she woke up the next morning in need of some coffee. Her Zing Zero Sweetener in her French Vanilla coffee always did the trick. She relaxed with her coffee mug, posted her favorite Homecoming pictures on Instagram, ordered Chipotle with one of her BOGO cards and felt great that her Survival Kit Basket saved her so much throughout her last Homecoming Week at GSU.
