Nontraditional Spring Break Spots

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

Are you tired of going to the same place every year for spring break? I am talking about Destin, Panama City Beach, or on a cruise. Don’t get me wrong, those tourist places and atmospheres can be a ton of fun with your friends and you can get the most out of your budget in those places.

However, here are some affordable, but fun and exciting places to go if you are looking to switch up your usual spring break routine. All of these are within a driving distance of around six hours or less.  You wont be spending all your money on gas!

1. Go to the mountains. There are endless options from the North Georgia mountains all the way into Tennessee and the Carolina’s.

Recommendation: Asheville, North Carolina. This place is amazing (if you have not already experienced its wonder and delightful charm)

In Asheville, you can go hike Black Mountain, or talk a walk downtown and go site seeing. There are many wonderful shops and resturants to checkout. You must stop by the Biltmore and the Grove Park Inn while you are there.

2. An historic city and beach place. The best of both worlds!

Recommendation: Charleston, South Carolina. You have the beautiful downtown to hangout in. I suggest walking along the battery (water front), looking at all of the cool, old houses and hitting up King Street. This is where many shops and resturants are located. There are also several beaches to choose from including: Folly, Isle of Palms and Sullivans Island.

3. A small/mid-sized city with great attractions.

Recommendation: Nashville, Tennessee

You will not be disappointed going to Nashville. From great live music, an eclectic downtown and fun neighborhood spots to shop and eat in, it truly is a great spring break spot. The best places to go for fun are the Grand Ole Opry, Hillsboro Village (shopping and eating), and Broadway street in downtown. This is where you will find all the honky tonks and bars. If you go, you may run into some of country’s music biggest stars.

There are many other wonderful cities and places to explore for your spring break. I would say if you have a healthy budget, go to New York City, Portland or San Francisco. Happy Spring Break planning to all. Remember to pick a place where you will have the most fun with your friends without breaking the bank account or spending half of your trip in the car.
