McKenzie Fisher: A Passionate Leader Against Hunger

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCSU chapter.

Meet this week’s Campus Celebrity, McKenzie Fisher!

This sophomore business marketing major is a bobcat with a strong passion for helping others. Fisher has been heavily involved on our GC campus and has become a great leader of her very own organization, Bobcats Against Hunger.

Fisher is the leadership chair for her sorority, Kappa Delta, the Intern for the Leadership Programs, a Member of Alpha Lambda Delta, a Member of Omicron Delta Kappa, a Member of the Marketing and Advertising Club, and a graduate of the Emerging Leaders Program and the Leadership Certification Program.

“I feel really passionate about the leadership programs, because leadership is something that everyone can benefit from regardless of what your major is,” said Fisher.

Aside from all of her leadership duties, Fisher holds her own organization very close to her heart. Fisher and a fellow GC student, Sofia Papa, decided to start Bobcats Against Hunger after attending a hunger project in Atlanta.

“When Sofia and I saw the impact that we made within that one day at the ATL hunger project, we got to thinking about how there is such a need within our Baldwin County community,” said Fisher.

This idea and passion for helping others led Fisher to co-found Bobcats Against Hunger, which would work to provide healthy weekend meals to the students of Baldwin County.

“Within our first year we raised $12,500 which allowed us to host a hunger project and package 50,000 meals that have since then been distributed to those who are considered as food insecure,” said Fisher.

This year, the organization has continued to grow and is looking forward to hosting their second annual hunger project to package another 50,000 meals on March 7th.

“With Bobcats Against Hunger, I felt passionate about making a difference within my community,” said Fisher. “I felt passionate about the children within our community that didn’t have access to reliable and healthy meals.”

Fisher truly holds so much passion for the community around her and has done so much to give back to others. Her many leadership skills and the impact she has made in the Baldwin County area is what makes her one of GC’s Campus Celebrities.

“I recommend to everyone to follow your passions and to get as involved as possible,” said Fisher. “I am confident that these relationships I’ve made and my experiences here are all going to benefit me in my future after Georgia College.”

Welcome! I'm a sophomore Public Relations major at Georgia College. I am also a member of the Eta Mu chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority. From pinterest to shopping, I love all things makeup and fashion and hope to work with them in the future.
