Her Campus (HC): With an athletic record like yours, it must have been difficult to choose where to play. How did you decide to commit to playing football at Florida State and did you have offers from other schools?
De’Andre Johnson (DJ): It really wasn’t that hard actually. I had 40+ offers from other places, but I committed Florida State. I knew FSU was the best place for me. I loved everything about this school and I truly believe in coach Fisher’s plan.
HC: A few weeks ago you started your first spring practice. With all of the excitement for the upcoming season, what moment are you anticipating most?
DJ: Honestly, I can’t wait for that first moment before the game. Coming out of the tunnel, hearing the war chant in the background and getting hyped with my teammates. That is what I’m most excited for.
HC: A student athlete has a super packed schedule so what is your typical day like?
DJ: Yeah, I’m pretty nonstop all day. A typical day for me is morning workouts, class, lunch and team meetings. Afterwards, I have position meetings, practice, treatment and tutoring. I go home, wake up and do it all over again the next day. It’s a lot to do, but I love it.
HC: When you do have free time what do you enjoy doing?
DJ: I’m usually so busy that when I do have free time, I just like to relax around the house or go and explore around the campus.
HC: With football being such a big part of your life and being able to early commit to Florida State, I’m sure you had a role model to look up to and help guide you. Who is one of the most influential people in your life?
DJ: Definitely my father. He has taught me everything I know. From how to be a man to networking, he is the most influential person in my life.
HC: You mention earlier that you are “single and want to mingle,” so what are three characteristics that you look for in a girl?
DJ: [Laughs]. Yeah, well it’s true and I have to say someone who is beautiful, but also has a great personality and a nice body. It’s a good sign that a woman likes to take care of herself when she works out and takes pride in being healthy.
HC: Okay last question: who is your celebrity crush?
DJ: Rihanna.
