Meet Tara Lawson-Corley; a free spirited and fashion forward freshman here at Florida State who has her eyes set on success. Tara is majoring in Retail Merchandising and Product Development and minoring in Communications, loving every bit of what she has learned so far in her first semester. I had the honor in interviewing Tara this week to learn about this inspiring girl.

Her Campus (HC): What’s your favorite place on campus?

Tara Lawson-Corley (TLC): Landis green because there are usually dogs everywhere and I love dogs and I miss mine dearly.

HC: What organizations are you a part of here at FSU?

TLC:  I’m part of CMA, which is the Collegiate Merchandising Association. It helps me find other opportunities within my major. I ended up doing the Haute Fashion Show on December 5th. It really helps me in finding other things to do.

HC: What organizations would you like to join next semester?

TLC:  I heard about Diverse World Fashion and it’s kind of like a magazine here at FSU. I also want to join the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) which is another fashion organization on campus.

HC: Why AATCC in particular? What stood out to you?

TLC: I know there are only three for my major on campus and it seemed really fun and also has an accompanying magazine, which is what I kind of want to do in the future. I’m trying to find anything close to that.

HC: What’s your dream job?

TLC: Well, there are two. The first would be a merchandising buyer for Primark which is an English store. It’s like Forever 21 on crack which is my favorite store in the whole world. My second dream job would be fashion director for Seventeen magazine. It’s aiming high, but you have to start somewhere.

HC: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?

TLC: I think somewhere in England. My favorite place in the world is Liverpool because my mom grew up there. I’ve been over there and the city is so great. It’s so friendly and open and… beautiful. I love it there.

HC: If you could choose anyone in the world to be your mentor, who would you pick and why?

TLC: Cara Delevingne because she knows how to market herself to get anything that she wants. She started off with one career as modeling and has turned it in to so many new outlets. She’s kind of sporty and not the stereotypical fashion model type which is awesome. She’s such a cool person and is basically everywhere.

HC: What’s your go-to favorite outfit?

TLC: I have this black circle skirt and I usually wear it with a cute crop top.

HC: What’s your favorite season and why?

TLC: Fall because summer is way too hot for me and winter is way too cold. It’s in-between so it’s basically perfect.

HC: What would you do if you won the lottery?

TLC: Travel the world and end up owning a big a** house and adopting as many animals as possible. I just want to have a really nice house in the suburbs where you could just have 30 dogs and 50 cats and have no problems.
