4 New Albums You Will Become Obsessed With

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

These past few months have delivered truly awesome new music through the form of new albums. Here are my top 5 picks for new albums that have been released recently that are absolutely amazing for any music lover.

1)   “V” – Maroon 5

You’ve probably already heard a few of the extremely catchy songs from Maroon 5’s “V”, including “Maps” and “Animals.” This album offers Maroon 5’s infectious beats and lyrics with a newer indie vibe. Every song demands multiple repeats because of how catchy the music really is. After listening to the whole album, it’s clear that the album is really focused on the good, the bad, and the ugly aspects of love (and who doesn’t love a catchy song about love?) My personal favorite tracks include “Animals”, “Sugar”, and “Feelings.” With Adam Levine’s beautiful vocals, a taste of electronic, and Maroon 5’s classic captivating guitar riffs, “V” is sure to become your new favorite album.

2)   “My Everything” – Ariana Grande

The sensational Ariana Grande has dropped her new album “My Everything”, and it’s nothing short of spectacular. The blend of upbeat pop songs and old-time-reminiscent music combined with her insane vocals creates a unique album that fits any mood that you’re in. My personal favorite songs include “Break Your Heart Right Back ft. Childish Gambino” and “Break Free” (such a catchy tune). With this new music  I find it is resonant to my music idols like Mariah Carey and Beyoncé, this album is definitely a hit for me.

3) “This Is All Yours” – alt-J (∆)

You may not be familiar with this English indie rock band, but their new album “This Is All Yours” is a MUST listen. Their first album “∆” (the triangle symbol can be typed on an Apple Mac with the key sequence alt + J) was a major hit over in European countries, and also found some success here in the states.

Their newest album has a unique blend of calm and easy-going music to indie rock/electronic that makes you feel invincible. With deep lyrics that are up for infinite interpretation, alt-J will become your new indie obsession. My personal favorite tracks from this album that I definitely recommend giving a listen to are “Every Other Freckle”, “Left Hand Free”, and “Lovely Day.”

4)   “X” – Ed Sheeran

After Ed’s ultra successful album “+” (Plus), there were a lot of expectations for his newest album “X” (Multiply). Of course, Ed Sheeran did it again with an insanely amazing set of songs that all tug on your heartstrings, with clever and truthful lyrics about love and life. I may be a bit biased considering Ed Sheeran is probably one of my favorite artists ever, but this album has been on repeat on my iTunes library ever since it was released. With the blend of his classic and slow guitar based songs and influence of 90’s hip-hop/pop, this album is truly like no other.  My favorite songs include “I’m A Mess”, “Nina”, and “Runaway.”
