Dear Betty: My Roommate Is Going Through A Breakup

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

Dear Betty,

My roommate and her boyfriend just broke up. She’s been really upset about it and I’m not sure what to say or do to make her feel better. Any advice?

Sincerely,

Tailor Schwifft

Dear Tailor,

Breakups are hard for everyone. The best thing you can do for your roommate is be there for her. This might mean holding the tissue box and scooping the ice cream when she’s in need of a shoulder to cry on. Or, you might need to do everything in your power to keep her mind off of him. If she asks you to make sure she doesn’t text him, make sure she doesn’t text him. Keep her busy with lots of plans, from retail therapy to watching movies (nothing romantic, sci-fi or horror only). Listen to what she has to say; give good advice.  Offer to do her  hair and makeup for her first nightout post breakup. Let her borrow that dress of yours she’s always had her eye on. Last but not least, blast “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and dance around the room.

Hope this helps!

Yours Truly, Betty
