How a Track Athlete Effortlessly Runs Through His College Journey

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FAMU chapter.

Name: McDaniel Olivier

Major: Criminal Justice/ Philosophy (Double Major)

Hometown: Miami, FL

Relationship Status: Single

Zodiac: Cancer

Campus Involvement: Famu Men’s Cross Country, Men’s Track and Field Team

HC: Why did you choose to attend Florida A&M University?

MO:  FAMU gave me the best opportunity to better myself, not only athletically; but academically. FAMU has nothing but rich history and I feel like it has motivated every student at FAMU to create some type of rich history for themselves.

HC:  What is the career you wish to attain upon completing your schooling at our historically black university?

MO:  I plan on pursuing a career as a Defense attorney.

HC:  How do you balance out your studies, extracurricular activities, and your social life?

MO:  I would say it’s pretty hard for me seeing as how we are usually traveling to track meets every weekend. I try to my best to overload on the studying during the week to make up for the classes that I will miss, one of my methods are reading ahead. I would say I don’t have much of a social life outside of school and track, but any second of free time that I can squeeze out of the weekend is spent looking for the next “Turn up”.

HC: Describe your personal style.

MO:  I would say that I am a sneaker fanatic, I like different brands of shoes that stick out. My personal style is nothing special , I am usually wearing something basic, so that the shoes I am wearing stand out.

HC:  What is your viewpoint on life? Are you an optimist, realist, etc?

MO:  I would say I’m more of a realist, with a hint of optimism. I try to be realistic about certain situations in life while still looking at the bright side and believing in positive outcomes.

HC:  If a newspaper wrote an article about your life what would the headline read?

MO:  “Doing what’s hard, while it’s still easy,” a lot of people never jump on opportunities because they are afraid of the difficulty of the situation. I believe in getting the hard part out the way while it’s still easy. In reality, situations only become difficult because we allow it to become difficult.

HC:  If you had to choose Chick-fil-A Polynesian sauce, McDonald’s Sweet and Sour sauce, and Zaxby’sZax sauce which one would you choose?

MO:  Chick-fil-A Polynesian sauce, hands down.

HC:  What is the name of the song that is your 2014 anthem?

MO:  Nipsey Hussle, “You See Us”.
