The 7 Do’s and Don’ts of Snapchatting

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Whether it’s taking an embarrassing selfie or capturing a beautiful sunset across campus, Snapchatting has become a part of everyday life for college students. It’s a fun and efficient way to stay in contact with your friends, because what says ‘I miss you’ more than a picture with your tongue sticking out, no make up on having just rolled out of bed? There is something just so addicting about snapping pictures of yourself at random times throughout the day. But be careful my friends, because you don’t want to be that girl who everyone considers blocking for going overboard on Snapchat.

1. Don’t Make Your Snapchat Story 200 Seconds Long

Snapchat is supposed to be a fun and quick way to interact with your friends. This isn’t the time or the place to make mini movies and post it on your Snapchat story for all your friends to see. Let’s be honest, no one actually sits there and watches them anyway, so save everyone the time and just don’t do it.

2. Don’t Make a Snapchat Story of You Drunk at a Party

We get it; you party, so we don’t need 5 different Snapchat story videos of you out drunk with your friends on a Saturday night. Once in a while is not a bad thing but when you are Snapchatting stories of yourself every weekend at party, you have problem. You also don’t want to put up a video of you doing something embarrassing and then waking up and regretting it the next morning. So do yourself and everyone a favor and take it down a couple notches with the party Snaps.

3. Don’t Send Your Snapchat Story to Individual People

Nothing is more depressing than realizing the Snapchat you just received from the cute boy you met last weekend is also posted as his Snapchat story. There is no point to sending your Snapchat stories to individual people because odds are that they are going to see it anyway- no need to send it twice.

4. Do Send Unflattering Pictures to Your Friends

Snapchat is the one place where it is socially acceptable to send embarrassing pictures to all your friends without being judged. It is a quick and easy way to stay in contact with your friends while being silly. It’s college; no one has the time or ability anymore to send out flattering pictures. Besides, what’s the fun in that?

5. Don’t Screenshot

We all have that one friend that has loads of blackmail on us from screen-shotting our ugly Snaps. Little tip…don’t be that friend. It takes all the fun out of sending unflattering Snapchats because no one wants an ugly picture of them on someone else’s phone. Snapchat is supposed to be fun, not a way to genuinely humiliate your friends.

6. Do Take Pictures of Your Food

Definitely take pictures of the appetizing food you have because if you don’t post it on your Snapchat story did it actually happen?? Posting pictures of appetizing food is different and everyone enjoys looking at pictures of a delicious meal. It gets everyone’s mouth watering for whatever you’re having and everyone will totally be jealous.

7. Do Take Pictures of Pets

The best Snapchats that are received or put on a Snap story are the ones of your roommate’s new puppy. Nothing against friends or anything, but there is something about a new puppy that makes everyone’s heart melt. If you send a Snapchat of your puppy there will definitely be no complaints!
