Shira Kipnees ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at F and M chapter.

Shira Kipnees ’15

I met Shira Kipnees ‘15 as a freshmen. We had both signed up for Her Campus. It was a new and emerging club at F&M that we got to see evolve to over our four years at F&M. I chatted with Shira about this evolution and what some of her favorite Her Campus moments were as well as what she plans to do in the future. Enjoy!

How does it feel to finally be a senior? It’s a bit weird honestly. I can’t believe it’s getting time to graduate. On the other hand, it’s really great to be the “big man on campus” and mentor all the underclassmen.

I remember one of our first meetings as Freshmen. We were sitting in College Row with all these upperclassmen and Her Campus was in its beginning years at F&M. How does it feel now seeing the success of Her Campus now? Does it make your role as our correspondent more rewarding? I’m really thrilled with the success of Her Campus F&M, especially since we were a silver level chapter last semester. I’m so honored to have been a part of it since my freshman year and to have seen it grow so much. I find that being Campus Correspondent is really rewarding, especially when we get a lot of traffic to the site or one of our articles goes viral.

What is your favorite article from our branch? From the main site? That you have written? It’s hard for me to ever pick a favorite article. I was honored and impressed when our memorial article to Elana Stein ’16 was widely viewed and editing that article really made me cry, so perhaps that’s my favorite article from our branch. My favorite article from the main site is also hard to pick. I really love some of the Her Story pieces, but maybe the Her Story about the girl who competed on a reality TV show when she was a teen is my favorite, just because it was so cool. It’s hard for me to pick my favorite article I’ve ever written, just because I’ve written so many wonderful ones. I guess I’ll narrow it down to my favorite Her Campus article I’ve ever written, which may be the Her Story article I wrote for the national site about having a special needs brother.

Big plans for the future? I plan on going into journalism after I graduate, most likely into online media, and maybe if I want to get really specific, Jewish journalism in New York City. I’d like to be an editor and also write articles for an online publication. I think that would be really cool, especially if I got to work at an online Jewish media source, especially after the awesome internship I had this summer at Jspace.com, an online Jewish newspaper.

And the age old question….Ben or John? I love them both equally, but I guess if I really had to choose, I’d go with Ben. He’s got so many great quotes!

I am currently a senior at Franklin and Marshall College in the picturesque city of Lancaster, PA. I am a Spanish and History major and I'm excited to be a writer for HerCampus F&M. I love finding new and interesting ways to design nails and always share it with others. I also love all things of adventurous and exotic natures, stories, art, and cute boys (let's not forget what we really are checking on HerCampus).
Along with being the Her Campus Franklin and Marshall Campus Correspondent, I am also the editor-in-chief of Epilogue, F&M's literary Magazine, Staff Writer for The College Reporter, F&M's student newspaper, and a very active member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. When not hard at work, you can find me writing, reading, geeking out over Disney movies with my friends, or doing art projects.
