Richard Beaumont and the Quest for the Strong Eyebrow

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Big, bold and beautiful eyebrows are fast becoming the latest beauty craze. Us mere mortals spend hours plucking, waxing, dying or drawing them on in the hopes of achieving eyebrows as perfect as the likes of Cara Delevingne. Sigh. If only!

Getting your eyebrows on fleek can be quite tricky. Get it wrong whilst plucking you can end up looking surprised for weeks on end or even worse if you get carried away you can end up sporting what look like two slugs above your eyes!

With just a little care and attention, your eyebrows can really frame your face and enhance your eyes. Being a redhead, my eyebrows are practically non-existent and having sported a full fringe most of my life, I had never really paid them much attention until Martyna at Richard Beaumont suggested I try giving tinting a go.

I was a bit skeptical at first but curiosity got the better of me and so I booked in for my HD eyebrow appointment. During the appointment Martyna and I discussed the look I was hoping to achieve, how dark I wanted my eyebrows to be and what would be required to achieve the look I wanted.

I also had a free patch test (to check I wasn’t allergic to the dye). HD (high definition) eyebrows is all about tailoring your eyebrow requirements to achieve the best look. I’m quite fortunate to have full eyebrows so all I required was a tint and eyebrow design. Others might need just a tidy or might want to discuss other options such as using powders and makeup or even more permanent make up*. Martyna was really friendly and helpful and most importantly listened to what I wanted.

A few days later I came back for my eyebrow design and tint. First Martyna tinted my eyebrows. I decided as I was going from blonde to a natural brown colour that I didn’t want the tint on too long as I still wanted into look natural enough. The colour at first was quite dark but within a couple of days the tint had faded to match my hair. Result!

Then using warm wax  Martyna designed the shape of my eyebrows. Surprisingly the process was relatively painless! Once we were both happy with the shape of my brows she then used tweezers to give further definition (and to get rid of those stray hairs).

After 22 years I finally had eyebrows! I wasn’t quite Cara Delevingne, but…

I couldn’t believe the difference! My features really stood out in contrast to my darkened eyebrows, my face looked more defined and my eyes looked more open and bluer. Admittedly it was a little strange at first but I soon got used to it.  I was also surprised by how many people noticed too and even complemented me on my eyebrows, one of the strangest yet satisfying feelings!

Having never fully understood the eyebrow craze previously, I have found myself starting to use eyebrow pencils to make them look fuller for a night out and now the tint has faded I will definitely be booking in for another soon!

*At present Richard Beaumont offers tints, waxing, plucking and shaping as part of their services but are happy to give advice on offer methods and are looking to develop their range of services. Eyebrow tints start from £8.50 and design from £13.50 but don’t forget that student discount!
