Her Campus Exeter’s Alternative Guide to Fresher’s Week

Her Campus Exeter are giving you their selection of some of the more alternative events going on during Welcome Week. Think surfing, gigs, afternoon tea and even Harry Potter! Here is your official guide to what is going on during Fresher’s Week.

Monday 16th September:

BodySoc Aerobics 1pm-2pm Lemon Grove

Health and Fitness society BodySoc holds exercise classes including Zumba, Pilates, Legs Bums Tums and so many more! They are the best ladies for putting on classes that everyone can take part in and really feel the burn! With plenty of girlie socials and classes on offer, try out their taster sessions which run all week.

Razz Street Style Shoot 3:30-5:30 M&D Room Devonshire House

Arts and Lifestyle Magazine Razz are doing a Street Style shoot, scouting the best dressed Exeter students on campus. Hang around Devonshire house if you’d like to get spotted and speak to Presidents Claudia and Toby about joining.

RAG Pub Quiz 8pm-10:30pm The Ram

RAG’s weekly pub quiz kicks off during Welcome Week. With all money going to charity, gather a team together and do your best at answering fun general knowledge questions in Exeter’s own pub ‘The Ram’.

Tuesday 17th September:

Harry Potter Society Welcome Picnic 1pm-3pm Queens Building

We all secretly love Harry Potter, and for some it’s a not so guilty a pleasure. Join the committee for a casual picnic to meet new people and get to know new members.

Community Action and RAG ‘Willing to the Wild’ Pub Crawl The Ram 7pm

Community Action and RAG host their ‘Willing to be Wild’ Pub Crawl, gracing Exeter’s finest establishments such as the Imperial, John Gandy’s and of course Timepiece. Dressing up is certainly encouraged and it’s a great opportunity to meet others interested in volunteering whilst trying out Exeter’s pub life.

Wednesday 18th September:

Surf Club Trip to Polzeath plus BBQ 9am-5pm North Park Road Bus Stop

Here at Her Campus, we are always up for trying something new and embracing Exeter’s community and lifestyle, meaning the annual Surf Club BBQ is certainly one to add to the diary. Try something new all day at the beach and enjoy a BBQ in a chilled environment with even more chilled out society members.

XPression ‘A Play in a Day’ 11am-5pm XPression Studios, Devonshire House

XPression FM is Exeter University’s official radio station and is hosting ‘A Play in a Day’, allowing anyone to take part in broadcasting and speaking on the radio. Come down to Devonshire House to take part.

Razz Launch Party at Mama Stones 8pm                                

Razz Magazine are meeting at Mama Stones on Wednesday at 8pm. The committee will be in house to answer questions and get to know new members. The arts and lifestyle magazine are staying at Mama Stones (owned by singer Joss Stone’s mum by the way!) all evening, which promises live music all night, 2 for 1 on cocktails and even shisha outside.

Thursday 19th September:

Dance Society’s Afternoon Tea 12-2pm Ram Beer Garden

Come down to the Ram Beer Garden to meet members and committee from Exeter Dance Society. Afternoon tea and cake is promised!

Art Society Tie Dye Session 2pm-4pm Queen’s Art Studio

Art Society is hosting a Tie Dye Session on Thursday afternoon and will be providing all materials. The perfect opportunity to meet other arty people and make some new clothing for your first term- who needs Urban Outfitters?!

Friday 20th September:

Debating Society : “Does Pornography Provide a Good Public Service?” 7-8:30pm Amory Moot Room

The Friday Night Debates have become a regular feature for Debating Society and are always certain to be heated. To kick off the term this debate will feature a former pornstar, Guardian journalist and an erotic author.

Her Campus Exeter Does Timepiece! 7:30pm Timepiece

Undoubtedly the best event to take place during Welcome Week, meet us at Timepiece on Friday! Her Campus Exeter will be taking over the much loved venue Timepiece. You will get the chance to meet the committee and new members, find out how to get involved and enjoy drinks and dancing! This is our first social of many planned for this year.
