This year, the day to celebrate mothers all around the UK falls on March 11th, which means you still have plenty of time to think of a gift for your own unique and wonderful parent. However, being students with a pile of work to do, we often put it off until the last minute, meaning that we find ourselves without a gift to give on that special day. If like me, you’re planning on doing it in advance, or even if you’re just out of ideas on what to buy or don’t want to go over your budget, here are 3 gifts ideas for your lovely mum:

1. Homemade anything

My mum always used to tell me that making something as a present for anyone – especially your parents – shows that you’ve put some real thought and effort into your particular gift. This is also a great way to save money, beyond buying what you need to make the gift. You could bake, sew, or (if you’re feeling particularly crafty) paint something for your mum. If you feel that you want to go the expensive route, think about making a photo album -don’t forget to let your other family members know though!

2. Jewellery

What Mum doesn’t love a lovely piece of jewellery? Don’t worry, there are loads of cheap alternatives to your mum’s favourite jewellery brands online. If you can, try looking for something that’s understated but still shows your appreciation and love for all she has done for you. It can even be earrings, provided you make sure they come with backs and aren’t too flashy. There are even websites that let you create your own design or print your own message on the jewellery you buy, provided you have the time and creative spirit.

3. A trip/spa day

All mothers, I feel, deserve a day to relax from the regular stresses of their day-to-day life, so why not offer them as a gift a place where they can do that and get amazingly pampered at the same? Admittedly, this is the most expensive of our options, so you could just opt for a mani-pedi session if you’re worried about budgeting. But, if you can manage to find one, some of these places also offer mother-daughter deals for this special day, so you’ll have a chance to be pampered by your gift as well!

These are just some of the many options to show your mum how much you love her. Everyone’s mother is unique after all, so just remember to cater to her tastes and make a big fuss of her on the day. There are plenty of websites that offer Mother’s Day gifts on a budget, so feel free to check those out if you’re a bit short this month and still want to show your appreciation of your amazing mum!
