Younger: The Hidden Gem Series You Should Be Watching

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

Do you need a new show to binge watch? Then you need to check out Younger. At only 30 minutes per episode, the time will fly by. My roommates and I watched the entire first season in only two days, then anxiously waited for the second season to air. Since the second season finale aired last week on March 23, it’s the perfect time to catch up on what you’ve been missing out on! The full seasons 1 and 2 are available on the TV Land app.

In case you need more convincing, here’s what it’s all about:

A recent divorcée, Liza Miller, has some trouble getting back into the working world. No one wants to hire a 40-year-old woman from the New Jersey suburbs who has been out of the workforce for the last 15 years to raise her daughter. As a solution to this problem, she decides move in with her friend, Maggie, in Brooklyn and pose as a younger 26-year-old. She immediately receives a job offer as an assistant for Diana Trout, Head of Marketing at Empirical Publishing. After this, her world will turn upside down. She meets a hot, young tattoo artist at a bar and soon dives head first back into the exciting, social world of young adults. Speaking of meeting, meet the characters whom you will come to know and love.

The Girl: It’s Liza herself. You’ll find her quirky sense of humor and hesitant resistance to entering her new life entertaining throughout the entire series.

The Roommate: Maggie is Liza’s confident artist friend from back in the day. She fully supports Liza’s new life and helps open her eyes to different lifestyles.

The Tattoo Artist: Josh is just an attractive, fun-loving guy with a passion for tattoos. But it’s unclear whether he’s going to be too free spirited for 40-year-old Liza. If you want to see some artsy, creative shots of him, check out his instagram @nicotortorella.

The Boss: Diana may be tough on the outside but has a sensitive side once you get to know her. You almost come to feel bad for her as a lonely executive. (Think Louis Litt from Suits but less sneaky.)

The Work BFF: Kelsey Peters, played by the beloved Hillary Duff (tbt Lizzie McGuire), quickly becomes Liza’s best friend. She is the pretty, loyal, stereotypical recent college graduate driven for success.

The Crazy Friend: Lauren is Kelsey’s fun, spunky sidekick with an adventurous wild side. For example, she tweeted a picture topless at lunch and had #ToplessTuesday trending within the hour.

The Best Friend’s Boyfriend: Thad, Kelsey’s boyfriend, isn’t exactly a fan favorite. Although he may be attractive to the eye, his behavior will have you hating him sooner rather than later.

What will happen with Liza and the hot tattoo artist? Will she be able to keep her true age a secret? Can she handle the pressures of the fast-paced working world? Will she be able to balance out her new life with being a mom? I guess you’ll have to watch to find out! Just download the TV Land app for full access to the entire series so far. You won’t regret it!
