Gilmore Girls Graduate

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

This semester I took the plunge and decided to binge watch the pivotal feel-good, girl power show of the early 2000’s. That’s right- I’m talking about Gilmore Girls. This quintessential coming-of-age tale tells of the ups and downs of Lorelai Gilmore and her namesake daughter, Rory. As a Disney Channel kid myself, I never experienced the joys of watching Rory and her mother grow up together, however thanks to the blessing that is Netflix, I can proudly say that I have binged the entire series. I know, it’s practically a crime that I had never seen this shining beacon of television entertainment, but now I offer you a rare perspective: one college girl’s honest first impression. As most of you know, there are usually 22 episodes per season and as such, I will offer you 22 of my most brutally honest takeaways from Gilmore Girls.

  1. I wish Lorelai was my mom.
  2. I’m quickly realizing that coffee is the cure all for anything going wrong or right in life.
  3. Why does Rory need to go to Chilton? I went to public school and I turned out fine. Right?
  4. I don’t like Dean.
  5. Wait…Are Lane’s parents allowed to ship her off to Korea? Should someone be getting involved here?
  6. Emily Gilmore is a scary pterodactyl woman.
  7. Team Jess.
  8. Dean needs to chill and let Rory go to Harvard. Do you, girl.
  9. If I had a friend like Paris, I think I would’ve had five mental breakdowns by now.
  10. This early 2000’s style is really speaking to me; skinny scarves and graphic t shirts need to make a come back.
  11. Casual tour of Europe as a graduation present. That totally happens right?
  12. Why is everyone getting married? Everyone in this town seems like they’re in a hugh rush.
  13. I really don’t like dean.
  14. How does Rory have time for all of these boys?
  15. I’m getting so hungry watching them eat all the time, I need snacks.
  16. Do people actually like the Huntzberger’s actually exist? This is a pressing question.
  17. If someone could hook me up with a post grad job in London that’d be great thanks!
  18. Keeping Up With The Kims would make a great reality show.
  19. I totally belong in this family; the coffee, the junk food, the watching movies all the time. Adopt me please!
  20. I’m getting way too wrapped up in this fictional world.
  21. This is the greatest show!
  22. Wait…What am I supposed to do with my life now?

If anyone has suggestions on how to recover from post Gilmore Girls comment below!

I am a senior at Elon University majoring in Strategic Communications and minoring in professional writing. I love writing, fashion, and London and hope to combine my passions as a career some day. When I'm not doing homework I am probably binge watching new girl or finding new gluten free recipes online.
