Why There is No Shame in Celebrating Christmas Before Thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ECU chapter.

Halloween, a holiday you look forward to for some time, is now over. How do you cope? Thanksgiving is amazing but let’s be honest, there aren’t many (if any really) Thanksgiving movies, music, etc. to indulge in for the month of November. Some people may say that preparing for Christmas before Thanksgiving is way too early…but I’m here to tell you that if you like starting your Christmas season come November 1st you should embrace it! Here are just a few reasons why prepping for the “most wonderful time of the year” early is not something to be ashamed of:

The Music

How fair is it that some of the catchiest music out there is only “acceptable” to listen to for one month out of the entire year! I don’t think so. If you listen to Let It Snow and Santa Baby for two months out of the year instead of one, I bet you’ll be in an overall happier mood than if you didn’t. So turn up the holiday jams!

The Movies

Can anyone honestly watch ALL the Christmas classics and their Christmas favorites in ONE month? Especially with being in college we’re all extremely busy and we find ourselves not doing a lot of things we plan to do. Do yourself a favor and give yourself the extra time so you can actually watch all the movies you look forward to watching all year long.

The Décor

I mean there isn’t much to explain here. All the stores have already put out their cutest Christmas decorations. How can you resist the urge to pick up that super cute ornament or that wreath you have the perfect spot for? Don’t stop yourself from looking the other way just because you haven’t eaten your turkey yet!

Christmas Cookies

Ladies. All of us have that one (at least) treat our families or we make every Christmas season. You only make those this one time of year. Why stuff your face and try to get your fill of them to last you until next year all in one month? Don’t waste any time. Make those cookies and enjoy them regret free for two whole months. Don’t choose now of all times to disregard “treat yo self”.

And simply, why wait?

Like honestly, what real reason is there to not start celebrating? In my opinion Christmas should already be every day of the year, so what’s wrong with spreading the joy and cheer to the month of November? No one is forgetting about Thanksgiving or ignoring the importance of the holiday. We simply just want to carry over the feeling of goodwill and Christmas spirit so that there is more time to enjoy it. To anyone who says it’s too early, I only have one thing to say:

Happy (early) Holidays!

Writing. Living. Loving. Laughing. Eating.
