Top 10 Gilmore Girls Episodes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Eckerd chapter.

In honor of the announcement of the Netflix reboot of Gilmore Girls. (Don’t get you’re hopes up yet, it hasn’t officially been confirmed yet.) I, a self proclaimed Gilmore Girls expert, (after all I’m basically Rory if she was a science major), have decided to pick the top 10 best Gilmore Girls episodes. Get ready for a walk down memory lane and for those of you who live under a rock and somehow haven’t seen Gilmore Girls yet: spoiler alert.

10) The Loreleis First Day at Chilton Season 1 Episode 2

“The Loreleis First Day at Chilton” is a mess and completely typical of the Gilmores. It’s also completely typical of first days of school, especially first days of school as a transfer student. And let’s be honest, who’s mom hasn’t worn an embarrassing outfit to a school function?

9) The Prodigal Daughter Returns Season 6 Episode 9

If you’re anything like me, you banged your head against your computer all through out Rory’s rebellious phase, so of course, one of my favorite moments on the show is when Rory decides to turn her life around and reconciles with Lorelei. Calling your mom and asking if you can come over while already on your way home is a typical daughter move.

8)Girls in Bikinis, Boys Doin’ the Twist Season 4 Episode 17

Spring Break with Rory and Paris sounds like a crazy time. And to be honest it’s exactly how I would want to spend my Spring Break’ reading on the beach and watching weird documentaries on Netflix at night, all while trying to hunt down fresh fruit so I don’t develop scurvy.

7) Rory’s Birthday Parties Season 1 Episode 6

Rory’s 16th birthday is a special experience for the Gilmore family. It’s touching to see how real and relatable the Gilmore family is. We watch Emily and Lorelei, and Rory and Emily struggle to understand each other. It seems like Emily finally gets Lorelei and Rory and then she invites all the people that Rory hates to a giant birthday party. This is what draws me Gilmore Girls, how real the relationships are.

6) I Get a Sidekick Out of You Season 6 Episode 19

Lane and Zack’s wedding day is perfect, an exact representation of their modern, mixed-up relationship. Lane and Zach had 3 weddings in 1 day! What girl doesn’t want as many parties as possible thrown in her honor? I personally love this relationship because Lane and Zach are one of the few functional relationships in basically all of Gilmore Girls. And let’s be real, Zack rocks the robes.

5) You Jump, I Jump, Jack Season 5 Episode 7

This episode of Gilmore Girls is great for so many reasons. 1) The Titanic reference, ‘nuf said. 2) Rory and Logan; it’s the beginning of well maybe not a beautiful relationship, but an interesting one. 3) Luke’s exposure to the Gilmores. 4) Most importantly, the beginning of a quirky, wonderful, and amazing relationship between Lane and Zack.

4) Dear Emily and Richard Season 3 Episode 13

I loved seeing Rory’s birth paralleled to the birth of Christopher and Sherry’s baby. And honestly Lorelei is amazing; the ultimate role model. She support Sherry, a woman who essentially stole Christopher away from her, so Sherry wouldn’t have to experience what Lorelei did, Giving birth alone in a hospital. 99 Luftballons will always remind me of Gilmore Girls, possibly even more than the theme song.

3) The Lorelei’s First day at Yale Season 4 Episode 2

Rory’s first day at Yale is what all of us wish our first college experience was like; I mean come on, her first night at college was basically a giant sleepover party. We all wish we had an icebreaker as awesome as Lorelei Gilmore and that when we were alone and scared we could call up our mom to come back to school and help us make friends. I also just love how Lorelei is able to redeem herself from the embarrassment that was Rory’s first day at Chilton.

2) Those are strings Pinocchio Season 3 Episode 22

“My mother never gave me any idea that I couldn’t do whatever I wanted to do or be whomever I wanted to be. She filler our house with love and fun and books and music…I don’t know if she ever realized that the person I most wanted to be was her.”

This episode comes in second for these very lines. If only the whole world had Lorelei Gilmore for a mother.

1) Bon Voyage Season 7 Episode 22

I can honestly say that Gilmore Girls is probably the only TV series in which the Series Finale was the best episode. “Bon Voyage is a testament to Rory and particularly, Lorelei’s influence on Stars Hollow. How could you hold back tears when Rory said goodbye to Lane or when Lorelei and Luke finally got back together? This episode left us wondering, is Rory Barak Obama’s Press Secretary? And do Lorelei and Luke finally get married under the chuppah Luke built for her ages ago? Luckily this episode sets us up perfectly for a season reboot. Cross your fingers that Lorelei and Luke finally get married, and hey, maybe Jess and Rory will reunite at their wedding.

Happy netflixing collegiates!
