North Carolina Explain

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

Nothing beats waking up to realize that it’s going to be a warm, sunny, beautiful day, and if you’re from the South, you know that you don’t have to wait until April to have that. In North Carolina, it cam be Christmas day, the middle of February, the day before a snowstorm, and warmth you’ll walk outside to find that despite what you spent your childhood learning about the seasons, and despite what the groundhog said, today might just be summer.

How can you plan an appropriate outfit if the temperature can change at any moment? Do you risk spending the day with goosebumps by wearing that adorable floral romper that’ll be perfect for the afternoon, or do you risk sweating through your cozy oversized sweater that would ensure warmth and comfort throughout the chilly morning. It’s honestly an impossible decision.

What I’ve learned from the past 21 years of living in the South is the answers is layer layer layer. Top off your sundress with a sweater and tights, easily removable after your morning classes so you don’t have to suffer in the afternoon, but you can also layer back up when the evenings get chilly! If ya learn the system, you can work the system!

Don’t forget to enjoy the beauty that is southern warm spells followed by the occassional flurry! It’s truly a gift!
