Nice Trip, See You Next Fall!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Fall is finally here! The leaves have changed colors and they’re falling from the trees. The air is crisp. Boots of all colors, shapes and sizes walk about DePauw’s campus! We’re craving pumpkin flavored everything. We’ve built up our sweater collections for the season. Something’s missing, though.

Let’s face it, we all still want to jump into that big pile of leaves like we did when we were kids, but that would make us late for class. Fortunately for us, we live in an area that is close to many attractions, including “adult piles” of leaves. Get your mind off of your studies for a few hours and jump- enjoy the Fall! Take full advantage of this weather and explore these destinations!

1. The Indy “Screampark”: What is fall without a visit to a haunted theme park? Halloween is almost here, and for a more mature adrenaline rush, go to a haunted house filled with gore, ghosts and ghouls. The Indy “Screampark”, located in Indianapolis, consists of five Haunted Houses guaranteed to scare anyone who’s brave enough to enter the threshold. It’s a fun activity to do with your closest girlfriends, or a reason to bring that special guy along so he can “protect” you!

2. The Patch: I know one thing I miss most about being home during the fall season is getting to carve a pumpkin with my mom and sister like I always did as a kid! I miss the yearly hayrides that pulled my friends and I through a colorful forest. If you miss these things, too, then The Patch is definitely a trip for you! Located here in lovely Greencastle, the Patch offers hayrides, a pumpkin patch, a corn maze, and other fun fall activities! There’s no reason not to put on a pair of those boots you bought for the season and wear them Saturday afternoon for a hayride!

3. 21ST Annual Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis: If you’re not into the whole “outdoor” thing, then the 21st Annual Heartland Film Festival in Indy is a great place for you to visit! The festival offers daily screenings of movies, and special events at the Museum of Art and the Old National Centre. It’s definitely a place to check out if you want to get into the city and have a little lazy fun!

Each of these three activities offers an opportunity to take a trip, to get outside your comfort zone, to take advantage of a beautiful season. So jump! And enjoy Fall(ing)!
